Jennifer Lawrence ditches heels for unconventional red carpet footwear

Jennifer Lawrence, 32, wowed in a show-stopping scarlet gown as she walked the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival for the Anatomy of a Fall.

Being known for her graceful falls at award shows, including her 2013 trip to the Oscars stage, the Hollywood actress opted for very unconventional footwear for the occasion.

Jennifer was pictured being led down the stairs at the Palais des Festivals in a pair of black sandals.

The comfy footwear was hidden underneath her billowing red gown, which featured an A-line skirt and a long train.

Jennifer seems to have learnt from past mistakes having tripped over the stairs when accepting her Best Actress at the Academy Awards in 2013.

The following year she fell to the floor while walking the red carpet.

Two years later she also tripped and lost her shoe when leaving a dinner in London in celebration of her film, Silver Linings Playbook.

Jennifer’s red gown marked her second ensemble for the day, having attended a photocall for her new documentary, Bread and Roses.

The Hollywood star wore a knitted cream dress for the event, with Jennifer producing the film which explores the day-to-day lives of three women in Afghanistan living under Taliban rule.

Speaking of the project, Jennifer explained: “There’s not an end to this story and you feel pretty much helpless when thinking about how to do anything about it.

“It’s a hard thing to market.”

The arrival of the militant political movement in Kabul in 2021 had a disastrous effect on women’s rights in the country.

They were immediately stripped of any right to an education as well as limits on employment and their access to public spaces.

The documentary particularly focuses on three women, who endeavour to recover their identity and autonomy as viewers see the experience through their eyes.

The Director, Sahra Mani fled Afghanistan when the Taliban took power in the summer of 2021 and is living now in Europe.

Elsewhere at Cannes, Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese have been set for a standing ovation for their upcoming crime drama, Killers of the Flower Moon.

The film follows a wave of murders among oil-rich Osage Indians in the 1920s, with DiCaprio playing a weak-willed man who marries a wealthy Osage woman.

He then follows into the deadly schemes of his uncle, played by Robert DeNiro.
