Jeremy Clarkson, 62, retweeted ex-Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s passionate speech in tribute to the Queen and said he “agreed with it all”. However, he was faced with the cynicism of some of his 7.8 million followers, whose comments included: “Doubt [the words] are actually his though.”

Top Gear star Jeremy found himself rushing to the defence of the former PM and insisting that the speech really did come from the heart – but clearly not everyone believed him.

Jeremy’s comments came as Boris insisted he was “choked with sadness”.

Boris’s statement began: “This is our country’s saddest day.

“In the hearts of everyone, there is an ache at the passing of our Queen – a deep and personal sense of loss.”

He added that it was “far more intense, perhaps, than we expected”.
