Jessie James Decker slams United Airlines for ‘humiliating’ pregnant sister Sydney… after flight attendant made her get on all fours to clean up her child’s popcorn
- Decker, 35, shared her outrage after her sister was the subject of controversy
- Her sister Sydney was forced to clean her daughter’s mess on a flight
- Decker complained that the airline supplied the popcorn in the first place
Jessie James Decker is speaking out about her sister Sydney’s recent ordeal with United Airlines.
The 35-year-old country singer took to her Instagram Stories with a lengthy text post lambasting the airline on Sunday.
She was reacting after her sister Sydney Rae Bass’ husband Anthony Bass, pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays, complained on social media on Sunday that United had forced his pregnant wife to get on her hands and knees to clean up stray popcorn dropped by their daughter.
The complaint stirred up a major debate on social media, pitting those who thought it was rude to expect service workers to clean up after oneself against others who claimed that service workers were paid to take care of those messes.
‘My sister @sydneyraebass just texted me from her flight on @united,’ Jessie wrote in a since-disappeared post. ‘As you know, she is five months pregnant, high risk, and also traveling alone with her two small children.’

‘Blaire accidentally spilled some popcorn in the aisle’ of the plain, Decker wrote.
Her sister Sydney shares daughter Brooklyn, five, with Anthony, and the couple also adopted a younger daughter, Blaire, in 2020. It was Blaire who allegedly spilled some of her popcorn.
‘The flight attendant came up to Sydney with a trash bag, and a wet wipe, telling her the captain wants Syd to clean up every drop,’ Jessie claimed.
She wrote that her sister had to get on her ‘hands and knees,’ and she said the humiliation of the event left her in tears.
‘Way to go united,’ she added sarcastically.
Jessie cemented her support for her sister Sydney and her family with a follow-up post to her Insta Stories, which showed her nuzzling her head up against little Blaire.
‘Grabbed my sis and the popcorn hazard,’ she joked. ‘Yes, that’s what the flight attendant told my sister, the popcorn in the aisle is a safety hazard.’
A subsequent post featured a video filmed by Jessie as she quizzed her sister on where the popcorn that Blaire spilled had come from.
‘I’m thinking this whole time that the popcorn is something Syd just picked up [in the airport],’ she said from behind the camera, while Sydney confirmed that it was an in-flight snack provided by the crew.
‘If popcorn is a hazard, why are they giving it on planes?’ she asked.
On the spot: She said a flight attendant told her sister to ‘clean up every drop,’ leaving her in tears after other passengers watched her
What would you do? Sydney’s husband, Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Anthony Bass, posted a photo of the minimal mess to social media, which started a major discussion
Cute: Jessie shared her support by nuzzling the ‘popcorn hazard’ in a photo. She subsequently said United had reached out to her sister but left her to share the details
In an Instagram Live Q&A from Monday, Jessie updated her 4.2 million followers.
She said United had contacted her sister, though it was up to her to reveal the details: ‘[Sydney] can share that.’
Later on Monday, Jessie’s sister posted a photo of her daughter Blaire holding a bag of pop corn while beaming, an obvious reference to the incident, though she didn’t speak about it further.
‘The popcorn hazard,’ Jessie joked in the comments.
