He made a vow to overhaul his lifestyle and lose weight back in 2007.
And John Goodman proved that he’d stuck to his plan as he displayed his svelte physique at the 62nd Monte Carlo TV Festival in Monaco on Sunday.
The 70-year-old actor – who has lost 200lbs over the years – looked incredible as he posed on the red carpet at the festival, where he was serving as jury president.
Speaking about the decision to appoint him, festival organiser Laurent Puons said: ‘John Goodman is, quite frankly, a legend,” says Puons. “My grandson loves him, my mother loves him and I love him.
‘He’s crossed several generations with a phenomenal film career, and a phenomenal television career. He’s done it all, played every role. If he wasn’t leading the jury, we’d give him our lifetime achievement award.’

John looked dapper on the red carpet as he sported a fitted suit jacket that he paired with beige trousers and a patterned yellow tie.
The Rosanne star first started his journey in 2007, when he stopped drinking but his trainer then took him to a new level of weight loss and fitness.
According to his trainer he introduced the star to a ‘Mediterranean-style eating plan’ – which has a focus on fish, nuts, olive oil, vegetables and fruit.
John also exercises six days a week, making sure to take 10,000 to 12,000 steps a day and using an elliptical bicycle and treadmill.
The actor has always been open about his love of food, having said in the past to People: ‘It takes a lot of creative energy to sit on your a*s and figure out what you’re going to eat next. ‘
In 2016, John told Howard Stern: ‘I took it slow. I just wanted to change my lifestyle’ and admitted of his new way of living: ‘It’s an ongoing process for the rest of my life.
‘You look in the mirror everyday and go, “I gotta deal with this the rest of the day, I gotta deal with this schmuck?”‘
The following year he told ABC of his weight loss: ‘In the old days, I would take three months out, lose 60 or 70 pounds, and then reward myself with a six-pack or whatever and just go back to my old habits.

‘This time I wanted to do it slowly. Move, exercise. I’m getting to the age where I can’t afford to sit still anymore.’
As part of his lifestyle overhaul, the actor ditched alcohol and in 2018 told AARP: ‘It was basically just portion control and “I don’t need it.” I was just shoving everything into my mouth.’
Speaking about his alcohol addiction, John told Rolling Stone magazine: ‘All that anger was fueled by fear, and the drinking was because it was fun.
‘But I was probably born an alcoholic. But most of the anger’s gone. If I don’t watch the news, I’m cool.’
