Kelsey Parker praises Ed Sheeran for being a huge support to late husband Tom
Kelsey Parker has praised Ed Sheeran for being a huge support to her late husband Tom during his cancer treatment.
Kelsey, 33, was speaking to Ashley Cain on the MTV series Faces, a year after The Wanted star Tom's tragic death at the age of 33.
She told Ashley: "Ed is just an incredible person and what he did when we needed him, I will for ever be thankful for. And I know Tom will for ever be thankful for everything Ed did for us.
“Ed is looked after by Kev, his security guard, who was also Tom’s security. The love for Kev will forever hold them together.”
She also credited her "village" of family and friends with getting her through the dark times since his passing in March 2022.
In Tom's posthumously released autobiography, Hope: My Inspirational Life, he revealed that Ed had helped to pay for his medical treatment after being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour in October 2020.
He wrote: "I’ve never publicly said this before (and he’ll probably be mad that I’m doing it now), but Ed is a very special man. He even helped out with my medical bills when I was seeking other treatment options and having private immunotherapy.
“He didn’t need to do any of that, but my wife Kelsey and I are so grateful to him for his support. It meant the world.
“Overnight, my entire world turned upside down and I was forced to re-evaluate the value of life itself. I was absolutely petrified – I couldn’t stop thinking about death.”
A year after his death, Kelsey spoke exclusively to OK! about celebrating his life.
Joined by their children, Aurelia, 3, and Bodhi, 2,OK! met up with Kelsey for a shoot on a Broadstairs beachto mark the first anniversary.
“This is probably the hardest time since he died,” she told us.
“Going from February into March was such a hard transition because I knew what was coming this month. It’s been a year since I lost him, but it feels like yesterday. I’ve not really wanted to face this month because it’s the realisation that he’s not been here for a whole year and how much we all miss him.”
The family chose Broadstairs as it's a special place that reminds them of Tom.
“It’s the last holiday that we had,” she told us. “Me, Tom and our best friends Kelsey and Dean used to always go on holidays together. We took the kids here and Tom just loved it. We were looking to buy a property down here. And I just think it’s good for your heart to be down by the coast and the sea.”
And during our shoot, Kelsey had an “incredible” moment on the beach when she noticed one of the waves that had lapped up on the shore left the shape of a love heart in the sand.
“I always say that he sends me signs all the time,” she said.
“It was incredible when the heart appeared. I just massively felt him there.”
