Lady Frederick Windsor pulled kids out of royal school because they were given iPads
Sophie Winkleman has revealed that she has pulled her young children out of two different schools – including Prince George and Princess Charlotte's former school – after they were going to be given iPads to use during lesson time.
Lady Frederick Windsor – as she is officially known – has been married to Prince and Princess Michael of Kent's son, Lord Frederick Windsor, since 2009 and the pair share two daughters, Maud and Isabella.
The actress – who has had roles in shows such as Two and a Half Men, Peep Show, Death in Paradise and This is Going to Hurt – objected to children being given iPads from the age of six and "immediately started looking for different schools".
Sophie revealed how she took daughters, Maud, 9, and Isabella, 7, out of £20,000-a-year Thomas's Battersea – the school which their royal cousins, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, had previously attended until they moved to Lambrook School in September last year.
She said that pupils at schools attended by her children "were going to be given tablets, all of them from Year One [aged 5/6] to Year 6 [aged 10/11]… And this was announced in a proud – is this not exciting? – way and I immediately started looking for different schools. I have moved them twice now to get them out of tech-heavy schools."
While praising Thomas's School for being happy and energetic, Winkleman said the school did not suit her daughters.
Sophie has previously praised her experience of marrying into the Royal Family before and said her successful acting career never posed a problem to her position.
In an interview with The Times from 2020, she said: “I’ve been incredibly welcomed with open arms by all of them. I haven’t had a single negative experience.
"The Queen’s been wonderful, Prince Charles has been wonderful, Prince William’s been heaven.
"They’d never tell me off at all if I wanted to play some [racy] role. Everyone’s looked after me. Oh God, please don’t make me sound too gushing."
