Leo Sayer marries for a second time in low-key ceremony

Leo Sayer, 74, launched a successful music biz career in the early 1970s before the Brit, who has an Aussie parent, moved to Australia in 2009.

It has now emerged that he has tied the knot for the second time, marrying his long-term partner Donatella Piccinetti and taking their relationship to the next level.

A statement said: “After being partners for almost 39 years, Donatella Piccinetti and Leo Sayer got married in their garden in the Southern Highlands [of Australia] on Saturday 15th of March.

“It was a very private ceremony where the couple were joined by 40 of their closest friends. There was a reception lunch held afterwards at the famous Magpie Restaurant in Berrima.

“The weather was sunny, the bride was radiant, the groom looked handsome and they couldn’t be happier with how the day went.”

Express.co.uk has contacted the singer’s representatives for comment.

The Show Must Go On singer, whose tracks have been covered by high-profile figures like Cliff Richard, had previously been married to Janice Lisseter.

However, the pair divorced in the 80s following 11 years of marriage – and the ending of his romance with Janice set him free to start a new relationship with Donatella.

Although Leo now lives on the other side of the world, his original beginnings were much more local, with the star having been born in Sussex’s Shoreham-by-Sea,

The star was born to a devout Catholic family and had even been an altar boy when he was younger.

He has described how it was joining the local choir and receiving encouragement from a priest that provided the impetus he needed to “find his voice”.

He began his career as a songwriter for stars including Roger Daltrey, before setting up his own group, Jester, in 1972, and then progressing to a solo career.

Highlights of his time in the spotlight included achieving a number one single for When I Need You in 1977, and winning a Grammy for You Make Me Feel Like Dancing.

He even hosted his own show on the BBC, and recorded three songs for Beatles-themed film All This and World War II – I Am The Walrus, Let It Be and The Long and Winding Road.

Though he stepped back from the industry during the 1980s, he never lost his appetite for songwriting and achieved another number one single as recently as 2006 with Thunder in my Heart Again.

Perhaps most memorably for British fans, he appeared on Big Brother in 2007, when the infamous argument between Jade Goody and Indian actress Shilpa Shetty took place.

During his time on the show, Leo also wasn’t best pleased when Channel 4 declined to provide him with additional underwear.

Now, after 39 years, it seems he has officially found his happy ever after ending with second wife Donatella.
