Lewis Capaldi says hes taking a break as he struggles through Glastonbury set

Lewis Capaldi told fans he was “taking a break” from his career after his performance at Glastonbury Festival.

The singer recently cancelled all of his gigs ahead of his appearance at the annual music festival.

Lewis, 26, took to the stage and chatted for a while with the audience about how nervous he felt performing at the festival, saying “I am, quite literally, s****ing my pants.”

As he started his performance, Lewis admitted his “voice is going” but was going to continue his performance even though he was unable to sing properly.

Speaking to the audience, he said: “I’m gonna be honest everybody, I’m about to lose my voice up here.”

He then went on to say “But I’m gonna keep going and I’m going to go until the end, I just need you all to sing with me as loud as you can”

He also admitted that he would be taking another break from performing, telling the crowd: “I recently took three weeks off.

He also admitted that he would be taking another break from performing, telling the crowd: “I recently took three weeks off.

“It was a break for my mental health. I wanted to come back and do Glasto ’cause it’s so incredible, so I just wanna thank you for watching us. I was shit scared but you’ve really made me feel at ease.”

He then added “I’m really sorry. I hope the Eavises will have me back on, even though it’s been a bit of a s**t show. I feel like I’ll be taking another wee break for the next few weeks, you might not see me for the rest of the year. But when I do come back and I do see you I hope you’re up for watching.”

Despite admitting his struggles, Twitter users were quick to stick up for the Scottish-born singer, with @caveney_matthew tweeting: “How brave is Lewis Capaldi? His ticks are severe but he perseveres and entertains a massive crowd. It’s clearly hard for him. He’s inspiring. #Glastonbury”

Whilst @GreggC_CC commented: “Watching Lewis Capaldi at Glastonbury right now. He’s struggling with a combination of losing his voice & a severe bout of his Tourettes, most likely being triggered by the frustrations. But he’s still fantastic & the crowd are helping him through it, and it’s just wonderful.”

During his set, he also pranked the audience by announcing that Ed Sheeran was due to join him on stage to perform Pointless, a song he wrote with Sheeran.

He said: “Ed has been in America for the last little while so he’s not been over in the UK doing much, but we’re close friends.

“So I phone him up and say ‘This weekend I’m playing the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury, it’s a big thing’, we’re good friends…”

As the crowd went wild he then said “Ladies and gentlemen… Ed Sheeran”, before adding: “He’s not here. It would be cool if he was.”
