Loose Women’s Denise Welch showed no mercy to her hapless husband when she publicly humiliated him on Instagram for picking out a baseball cap to wear to a glitzy dinner at the Ritz. The 64-year-old TV favourite called out Lincoln Townley for his attempt to match a cap with a tie, declaring him a “w****r” for his outfit choice.

“We are going to the Ritz for dinner, right?” she exclaimed to her 365,000 followers in disbelief, before sharing footage of her husband in a bright red baseball cap.

He’d also picked out a very loud loose-fitting blazer with multi-coloured patterns emblazoned all over it, and a pair of mustard coloured trainers, which he seemed to have tucked his trousers into.

“Hang on a minute – Lincoln said ‘I’m gonna go smart casual, with a tie’, and this is what he came up with?” she exclaimed.

“I’m being serious about this… the cap??!! Pleeeease!!!” she groaned, before tagging London’s famously opulent hotel and adding “#sorry”.

“Lincoln’s cousin is treating us for Lincoln’s premature birthday thing,” Denise continued, while showing the world his unfortunate outfit choice.

“You look like somebody from a Peter Kay sitcom!” she spluttered.

Lincoln then tried to correct his fashion faux pas with an alternative cap in black – but that had Denise more riled up than ever.

“Let me see what it’s got written on the side of the cap,” she commanded, going in for the jugular as her beau attempted to hide it behind his back.

Eventually, he revealed to the camera that it spelt out his name in bright orange letters.

“Can you just discuss with me if you have seen anyone else with a baseball cap with ‘Dave’ or ‘Steve’ embossed on the side?” a dismayed Denise quizzed.

She added that she was “bothered about the fact that you’ve had a baseball cap made with Lincoln [written on it]”.

Thankfully for her, her husband agreed to get changed into a standard suit and tie and seemed to look much more chic at the event itself, which she shared later.

The ex-Hollyoaks actress shared a video of them both at the birthday bash with family, captioning it: “@lincolntownley trying to now pretend his outfit choice was a ‘joke’. It wasn’t, of course.

“You were going to wear it!” she taunted, while her sheepish-looking partner issued his denial.

The caustic ex-Coronation Street star seemed generally happy though, adding that she and her party were “the fullest people that have ever eaten a meal in the history of life”.

It isn’t the first time that she has called her partner’s wardrobe choices into question – and one Instagram skit published in the summer showed Lincoln jokingly donning his wife’s bright red swimsuit.

During a Celebrity Cruises UK trip she’d been invited on, Denise had feigned fury when she walked into her cabin bedroom only to find him wearing identical swimwear to her own.

“The influencer here, I’m back by popular demand!” Lincoln smirked, telling the world that he’d been invited to “influence the suite”.

As he sunk back into the pillows, praising the “lovely bed”, Denise walked in, demanding: “What are you doing?”

“Who sent you a replica costume?” she continued, before telling a grinning Lincoln: “They send ME the stuff.”
