Love Island star reveals near death experience after being impaled by a fence

Ellie Spence, who appeared on Love Island earlier this year, has opened up about an accident that was almost fatal in an emotional Instagram post.

She wrote about the horrific moment when she was almost fatally wounded by a fence on a night out at the age of 18.

Fresh from finishing her A-levels, she was out to celebrate with friends and climbed a gate because her friend couldn't get into her locked door.

Alongside images of her in a bikini on a beach and looking happy, she shared pictures that graphically showed her injuries.

She penned a caption that began: "Trigger warning graphic images.

"Around this time just before summer when I was 18, I impaled myself on a steel speared gate and almost accidentally killed myself.

"I’d just finished my A-level exams and me and one of my best friends Livvy went out on a night out, we got back to her house in the early hours of the morning and the gate in front of her house was locked.

"After climbing the gate and reaching the top, I put my foot on the bar in between the spears, my foot slipped and one of the spears impaled me directly in the joint of my leg. I somehow spun around and found myself hanging backwards off the gate, 10ft in the air."

She continued by saying that her friend was an "angel" who saved her life.

"I gave up and hung in silence and after a few minutes I suddenly heard a voice screaming in my ear to get up, get up, get up repeatedly (I didn’t recognise the voice) and I saw a bright white light (FYI I am not an overly spiritual person so this is still crazy to me to this day) I then immediately woke up and out of nowhere started perfectly directing Livvy and she thankfully got me off the gate.

"Livvy is a real-life angel and she saved my life that day."

She said that in hospital, doctors told her she almost pierced a main artery and could've bled out.

"I was rushed to hospital and told I was 3mm away from my main artery so just one more tiny tear I would have bled out and died hanging on the gate. Livvy is my real life angel and she saved my life that day."

She ended her post by saying that she was "lucky to be given a second chance at experiencing life".

"Coming to terms with very narrowly escaping death is a feeling I’ll never truly be able to put into words and the long recovery that followed really really made me appreciate how lucky I am to be given a second chance at experiencing life."

Her post touched followers who took to the comments to share their love and sympathies.

One person wrote: "This is so amazing. I have a scar on my thigh from slipping down the side of a drain and I hate having it out thankyou for giving me confidence [red heart emoji]".

Another said: "[Face with open mouth emoji] That is insane I am so happy you ended up ok!!! Thank you for sharing".

While fellow Love Island star Coco Lodge wrote: "Omg Ellie [heart emoji] thank you for sharing! You are beautiful and incredible [two red heart emojis]".
