A Place In The Sun pay tribute to Jonnie Irwin

Lucy Alexander revealed she met her colleague Ben Hillman for the first time as the team reunited at the annual event held at Grosvenor House in Park Lane.

The 53 year old took to the pink carpet at the TRIC Awards 2023 on Tuesday and was joined by her Channel 4 co-stars including Leah Charles-King, Craig Rowe and Sara Damergi.

The former Homes Under The Hammer presenter revealed she finally gets to meet her new colleagues after securing a role on A Place In The Sun.

She told Express.co.uk: “No, I’ve never met Ben. So it’s the first time that we get together. I’m really going to enjoy today and meeting everyone.”

Lucy revealed she is, however, good pals with property hosts Jasmine Harman and Laura Hamilton, but admitted the cast doesn’t get to spend much time together due to the travelling.

“I know Laura and Jasmine due to being in TV over the years,” she shared.

Lucy admitted she is thrilled to have joined A Place In The Sun as a permanent host following her one-off episode that aired earlier this year.

“Yes, I’ve joined permanently which is lovely but these are the experts [pointing to her co-stars] and I’m just the newbie,” she chuckled.

A Place in the Sun won the trophy for the Best Daytime show at this year’s TRIC Award.

During the awards ceremony, Ben paid a moving tribute to Jonnie who has since exited the programme following his cancer diagnosis.

During his acceptance speech, Ben thanked his ex co-star, who was sitting in the audience.

“This is fantastic, thank you to TRIC, thank you to everybody that has voted for us.

“It is 23 years almost now which is unbelievable, there are so many people from behind the scenes here who do amazing work and keep the show on the road.”

“Obviously, someone we would like to mention is a fantastic presenter who has been on the show for decades, Jonnie Irwin.”
