Mama June's Daughter Chickadee Diagnosed With Stage 4 Cancer

Oh, no…

Mama June’s daughter Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell has been diagnosed with cancer! And she’s only 28 years old, too.

According to family sources who spoke to TMZ on Thursday, Anna was diagnosed with stage 4 adrenal carcinoma in January. According to the American Cancer Society, the average age of someone with adrenal cancer is around 46, but it can affect people of any age. It is a rare disease in which cancer cells form in the outer layer of the adrenal gland, which is responsible for producing hormones. Anna’s diagnosis came about as she was complaining of stomach aches. After having a series of tests done, doctors discovered the cancer was in her liver, kidney, and lung.

The young woman began her first round of chemotherapy last month and is already experiencing hair loss. Doctors are now waiting to see how she reacts to the treatment before they make any future decisions. How scary…

Thankfully, the entire family has been there to support Anna through this difficult time in any way they can, including her two children, 10-year-old Kaitlyn and 7-year-old Kylee. Her boyfriend Eldridge has also been very supportive of her.

While things sound very much up in the air right now, they are all “very hopeful” she’ll pull through. You can see a selfie Anna snapped in the hospital before chemo HERE.

If you don’t know, Anna is June Shannon’s eldest child. The Mama June: Road to Recovery star is also mom to Jessica “Chubbs” Shannon, 26, Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird, 23, and Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, 17. For several years now, Chickadee has been very vocal about her strained relationship with her mother, even telling Dr. Phil in 2014 that the 43-year-old “lied entire life,” creating a distance between them.

Thankfully, the pair recently reunited at Pumpkin’s baby shower in the summer of 2021 and during June’s Florida wedding to Justin Stroud last month. The Mama June: From Not To Hot lead spoke to ET about the special day, saying at the time:

“This was the first time the family had all been together since 2014. So it was really special to get married in a place where my family and I have had so many memories!”

We bet it was also super meaningful to have everyone together considering it was the same month Anna was starting chemotherapy. Such an important time for them all to be with each other again! It’s especially nice to hear the estranged mother and daughter may have found a way to reconnect during this frightening medical emergency. We are sending love to Anna and her entire family as they face this tough diagnosis.
