Meghan Markle to receive prestigious award for ‘lifelong advocacy’ work

Meghan Markle is to receive another award – this time for her “lifelong advocacy for women and girls”.

The Duchess of Sussex, 41, has been named as one of this year’s Ms. Foundation Women of Vision – a prize run by America's oldest women's foundation.

The award will be presented to her by political activist and friend Gloria Steinem, who Meghan has been seen with on several occasions.

It comes just a week after the Duchess won a Gracie award for herArchetypes podcast.

In a biography on the Ms. Foundation's website, Meghan was described as "a feminist, champion of human rights and gender equity, and global role model".

It added: "Her lifelong advocacy for women and girls remains a constant thread she weaves through both humanitarian and business ventures".

Meghan is one of several women set to be handed the award this year – along with Black Voters Matter co-founder LaTosha Brown, abortion rights activist Olivia Julianna and LGBTQ+ advocate Rebekah Bruesehoff. Other recipients include Wanda Irving, co-founder of Dr. Shalon's Maternal Action Project, and Kimberly Inez McGuire, executive director of Unite for Reproductive & Gender Equity.

The awards will be given out at the Ms. Foundation's annual gala on 16 May at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in New York.

Teresa C. Younger, Ms. Foundation president and CEO, said: "Meghan, LaTosha, Wanda, Kimberly, Olivia, and Rebekah are incredible leaders.

"We are grateful to be able to shine a light on their many accomplishments and tireless work on behalf of gender and racial equity across the country and the world."

It comes as question marks still hang over whether Meghan andPrince Harry, 38, will attendKing Charles’ Coronation next month.

Relations between Harry and theRoyal Family continue to be strained following the publication of the Duke’s bombshell memoirSpare and the release of the Sussexes’ controversialNetflix documentary.

The couple have confirmedthey have received an invitation to the big day on 6 May – but they have yet to announce whether or not they will be there.

The Royal Family is said to havedrawn up two plans for the Coronation – depending on whether or not Harry and Meghan attend.

Following their invitation, the Sussexes have reportedly been in negotiations with the King and Buckingham Palace – giving alist of demands that, if met, would see them return to the UK for the big day.

Harry did make a surprise return to the UK last week, however, to visit the Royal Courts of Justice for the preliminary hearing in his claim against Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL).

Harry is part of a group – along with Baroness Doreen Lawrence,Sir Elton John, Sadie FrostandLiz Hurley– who are bringing claims over allegations the Daily Mail publisher carried out or commissioned illegal or unlawful information-gathering.

The hearing concluded last week – with a decision expected at a later date.
