Nadya 'Octomom' Suleman shares 1st day of school shot of her octuplets

Octomom Nadya Suleman, 47, shares a first day of school photo of her eight youngest children, 13, as they head off to 8th grade: ‘I love you’

  • Suleman conceived her octuplets via in vitro fertilization (IVF) in 2009; she had already had six other children at the time
  • She claimed that her doctor, who transferred 12 embryos into her uterus at once, misled her; he insisted she asked for it but he lost his US medical license
  • The mother regularly documents her life with her large brood on Instagram, particularly when it comes to marking her octuplets’ major milestones
  • Her octuplets, Noah, Jonah, Josiah Makai, Nariyah, Maliyah, Jeremiah, and Isaiah, turned 13 on January 26
  • Suleman is a single mother of 14; she also has six older children – Elijah, Amerah, Joshua, Aiden, and twins Calyssa and Caleb

Octomom Nadia Suleman has marked a major milestone in the lives of her octuplets: their first day of eighth grade.

The 47-year-old single mother of 14, who famously welcomed her octuplets in January 2009, after conceiving them via IVF, shared a photo of her eight 13 year olds – six boys and two girls – on Instagram, showing them lined up in height order while beaming happily together.

‘First day of 8th grade. Be proud of yourselves kids for being kind, respectful, and helpful to your fellow peers, teachers and staff. You are exceptional role models to the 6th and 7th graders. I love you,’ Suleman sweetly captioned her post.

Looking like they were happy, confident and ready to take on their last year in middle school, Nariyah, Isaiah, Maliyah, Jeremiah, Noah, Josiah, Jonah, and Makai stood proud in front of their garage.

Loving tribute: Suleman posted words of encouragement and love for her youngest children on social media

Showing off their individual styles and distinct personalities, the octuplets were equipped with their backpacks and one another as they went back to school.

Noticeably absent from the picture were Suleman’s six other older children – Elijah, Amerah, Joshua, Aiden, and twins Calyssa and Caleb – which the Octomom happily addressed in her caption, noting that her other kids had not wanted their mom to post of them.

‘Side note to critics: their older siblings did not want me to post a picture on their first day. I respect their choice, so should you,’ she finished her caption.

Suleman, a single mother to her brood of 14 children, received international attention and became media fodder when it was announced in 2008 that she was expecting octuplets.

Conceived via in-vitro fertilization, it was a hot-button topic in medical circles when it was revealed that Suleman’s doctor, Beverly Hills fertility specialist Dr. Michael Kamrava, willfully implanted 12 embryos in her uterus without her consent.

The pair have differing stories on whose idea it was to use all 12 embryos at once, but in 2011, Dr. Kamrava lost his United States medical license, according to a 2018 report in the New York Times.

According to Suleman, she says she never intended to have that many children and was ‘misled’ by the medical professional.

‘I was misled by my doctor,’ Suleman asserted to the New York Times, saying she thought she would have only two children.

‘He told me we lost six embryos, he said they were expelled out of me, and that’s why he wanted to implant another six.’

Dr. Kamrava did not respond to the New York Times’ request for comment, however a friend of the medical expert, Rabbi David Shofet told the publication: ‘He told me he suggested to her not to keep all of them, but she said no.’

At the time, Suleman also revealed that she was working on a book, telling the outlet that she had been writing ‘this manuscript since graduate school’.

When Nadya gave birth to the octuplets at 31 weeks in January 2009, 46 doctors and nurses were on hand to perform the C-section, delivering six boys and two girls weighing between 1 lb. 8 oz. and 3 lbs. 4 oz.

The siblings became the longest surviving set of octuplets to be born in the U.S.

The media personality has been besieged by negative publicity over the years, and while trying to provide for her children, she had a short-lived career as a porn star, allegedly at the insistence of her then-manager.

Despite what people have said about her and her choices before, Suleman has proven her critics wrong.

She has raised her 14 kids in a three-bedroom home in Orange County, California as a single mother.

All grown up: The ‘Octomon’ and her octuplets are in it to win it

In 2019, Nadya revealed that her then-14-year-old son, Aidan, is severely autistic and needs total care and assistance at all times.

‘This is my adolescent infant Aidan. He is 14 years old, going on 1 in his head. Aidan is severely autistic and total care. He requires complete assistance in meeting all needs in activities of daily living,’ she began the lengthy post.

‘Aidan is non-verbal, requires feeding, changing (he is not potty trained), bathing, and one to one supervision, as he has no safety awareness and would walk aimlessly into traffic. I, his mother, am, and always have been, his ONLY care provider. This “job” is my life (other than caring for 13 other children singlehandedly).’

In February, the ‘Octomom’ celebrated her youngest children’s thirteenth birthdays in which she took them bowling and out for cake and fun in the park.

Suleman has stated that God and family are her life.

The strong and determined mother of 14 children aged 13 to 21 holds down the fort with the help of her eldest kids and fostering immense love and respect within her brood.
