Naya Riveras son, 7, and ex doing well three years after Glee stars tragic death
The family of the tragic Glee star Naya Rivera is reportedly "doing well" following her sudden death three years ago.
The actress, 33 at the time, went missing on 8 July 2020, after going on a boat trip on Lake Piru, California with her then four-year-old son Josey.
Josey was later found alone on the boat, while the star's body was sadly recovered from the water five days later. A coroner ruled that her cause of death had been accidental drowning.
It is understood that she saved her son by getting him back on the boat but did not have enough energy left to save herself. Now, Josey is seven years old and he and his father, 39-year-old actor Ryan Dorsey, are said to be "doing well."
On the anniversary of Naya's death, a source close to the family revealed to People that the pair are managing to cope since the tragedy.
The insider said: "They are surrounded by family, including Naya's sister and Ryan's parents. Everyone has always made it a priority to make Josey's life as happy as possible. It took them all a long time to find a new normal after Naya's death. They are all doing a great job though."
The source also revealed Josey is a "sweet and smart" little boy and that his home is filled with pictures of Naya in order to keep her memory alive.
Naya and Ryan began their relationship in 2010, before breaking up and getting back together in 2014. They would later tie the knot on 19 July of that year, welcoming their son Josey in September 2015. However, the marriage did not last, and in 2018, the couple got a divorce.
Ryan recently shared the heart-warming way Josey paid tribute to Naya during Mother's Day celebrations.
Taking to Instagram at the time, the actor wrote: "@joseydorsey did a Mother's Day butterfly release for Mama with Grandma and Grammy (& Bess).
"Afterwards, he held his little elf to the sky with a smile and said, 'Happy Mother's Day in Heaven, Mommy.' His spirit is incredible… Hug'em if ya got'em." The actor then shared images of Josey and his grandmother releasing butterflies into the wild in her memory.
Meanwhile, Naya's sister Nickayla Rivera also shared an emotive tribute to the late American actress. Heartbroken Nickayla shared a sweet snap of her kissing her sister on the cheek to Instagram and beneath it penned a gut-wrenching letter to the star.
She wrote: "Sister, there are no words to describe my love for you. Side by side or miles apart, our connection is infinite.
"Our bond is unbreakable. We were complete opposites, yet simultaneously the same. The yin to my yang. I never knew that by losing you, I would find so much of you in myself. I've never known a life without you in it and still can't imagine it.
"My world is turned upside down. But through it all, everything we were, we are still. I'll always look at you with the same eyes as I did when I was young."
Nickayla ended the touching post by simply adding: "My shmaya, I'll love you for eternity and miss you every second of my life."
