Neighbours cancelled: Eerie photos of abandoned Ramsay Street set

Inside the Ramsay Street ghost town: Eerie pictures of the abandoned set of Neighbours show signposts, scripts and costume dummies still haven’t been collected months after the finale

Eerie photos have surfaced of the abandoned set of Aussie soap Neighbours, almost four months after the last episode went to air in July.

The production studio in Melbourne where generations of Aussie stars, including Margot Robbie, Guy Pearce and Kylie Minogue, started their careers still hasn’t been cleared out after production wrapped.

Discarded props, such as the famous Ramsay Street signpost, serve as sad reminders of the once-popular show, which was axed in March after 37 years on air.

The show was set in Ramsay Street, a cul-de-sac in the fictional Melbourne suburb of Erinsborough, and followed the lives of its residents.

A dusty script that once belonged to actress Georgie Stone was also left behind.

The Waterhole pub, where much of the show’s drama took place, has also turned green with algae and become overgrown with weeds.

The behind-the-scenes photos will no doubt trigger bittersweet memories for the millions of Aussies and Brits who watched Neighbours for more than three decades.

A heavily rusted caravan has been covered in graffiti – a sight that will likely remind fans of the 1988 episode when Charlene’s caravan went up in flames.

Other photos show rusted lockers in the fictional Erinsborough High School.

By contrast, the courtyard outside Lassiters Hotel has fared much better, showing little sign of wear and tear despite months of neglect.

The cast and crew of Neighbours filmed their final scenes at the Global TV studios in Nunawading, Melbourne, in June.

The soap was axed after the UK’s Channel 5 decided in March not to renew its contract with production company Fremantle to finance and broadcast the series.

The all-star finale of Neighbours saw the long-running Australian series win the TV ratings for the first time in more than a decade.

The episode, which was simulcast on Channel 10 and 10 Peach, drew 873,000 metro viewers across both stations, largely thanks to the cast of returning favourites such as Guy Pearce, Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan.

No other entertainment program came close to Neighbours as it wrapped up its historic 37-year run with a 90-minute special.
