Laura Prepon has told how having an abortion ‘saved her life’ after she found out her unborn baby would not survive and her own life was at risk.
The Orange Is The New Black star, 42, opened up about her abortion experience following the overruling of Roe v. Wade, which will allow many U.S. states to restrict or make abortion illegal on Friday.
Laura revealed that while the day she terminated her pregnancy was ‘the worst of her life’, she admitted she was ‘grateful to have a choice’, as people in her position may now be forced to go through to full term, despite the risks.

She wrote on Instagram: ‘One of the worst days of my life was when I made the choice to terminate a pregnancy in the second trimester’

‘The devastating truth is that we found out the foetus would not survive to full term, and that my life was at risk as well. At the time – I had the choice.
‘Everyone has their own story for seeking out this medical procedure and I empathise with anyone who’s been faced with this impossible decision.
‘I am praying for all of us, that we can get through this challenging time and regain agency over our own bodies.’

The couple hadn’t told anyone their news until a scan at 16 weeks, where they were then told the unborn baby had cystic hygroma, an abnormal development of the lymphatic vascular system.
Laura previously said: ‘Our neonatal specialist told us the brain was not growing and the bones were not growing
‘We were told the pregnancy would not go to full term and that my body was at risk carrying any longer. Ben held me as I cried. We had to terminate the pregnancy.’
Laura feared years of self-abuse had contributed to the condition, however her doctors assured her that wasn’t the case.

‘Doctors confirmed it wasn’t but in those moments it’s easy to punish yourself,’ she said.
Luckily Ben proved to be a great source of strength for Laura at this time, and eventually the couple were expecting another child.
In February 2020, the couple welcomed their second child, a son, into the world, she has yet to reveal their son’s name.
She recalled: ‘When the news began to sink in, we realised we’re going to go on this journey again and bring our daughter a sibling. I was also ecstatic,’ she wrote. ‘I mean, it’s magical.’

Following the Supreme Court ruling on Friday, individual states now have the power to decide whether to allow abortions and Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri and South Dakota have already outlawed the procedure after governors enacted ‘trigger bans’ immediately.
Many other states are expected to follow suit.
Laura and Ben were friends for many years before they started dating in the summer of 2015. In October 2016 they said they were engaged and then in August 2017 they welcomed their first child.
In June 2018 the lovebirds tied the knot, sharing the news with a tweet: ‘Just Married! Thank you for all the love and support. Wishing all of us the good stuff!’
Foster gained prominence with many fans and critics with his stunning performances in the hit HBO drama Six Feet Under (2003-2005).
He’s also best known for his roles in films including The Punisher (2004), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), Alpha Dog (2006), Contraband (2012), Lone Survivors (2013) and Leave No Trace (2018).
