Olivia Bowen says becoming a mum gave her a new life and feeling to Christmas
The festive season is a truly magical time of year, and for Olivia and Alex Bowen this Christmas Day is going to be extra special as it will be their first with son Abel, six months.
Olivia, 28, says the little one has given Christmas a “new life” and “feeling” and made it even more magical than it already is.
“Having Abel has given Christmas a new life and feeling,” the Love Island star exclusively told OK! of becoming a mum. “I’ve always liked Christmas but now I love it so differently as it’s all for him and enjoying the family time together.”
Olivia also detailed what they have bought for Abel for the big day.
She continued: “I’m pretty sure he’s going to enjoy the wrapping paper and the cardboard boxes more, but he does already have 20 presents to open. I promise we’re stopping there!
“We’ve got him a jumperoo and lots of noisy, bright-coloured toys. It’s more about Abel this year so we’re going to tone down the presents for each other as we went a bit over the top with it before.”
She and Alex, who met on the second series of Love Island in 2016 and tied the knot in 2018, will be celebrating Christmas at their five-bedroom home in Essex and will be joined by Olivia’s mum, stepdad, grandparents and her brother Jacob and his fiancée, with their house dressed to the nines for the occasion.
“Usually we’re really strict with the decorations and I always give the lady who does our decorations a plan, but this year we let her do her thing as I trust her and she always makes it look beautiful,” explains Olivia.
“It’s nice to have someone come in and do the staircase and all the other decorations. I’m good at decorating but I’m not that good!
“Then we’ve decorated our own tree and put it in the playroom and started that tradition.
"That’s my favourite room now. We did go a bit mad last year with our own decorations, but we’re going to keep them for a long time.”
Alex continues of their celebrations: “This is the Christmas house! We love hosting and it’s nice to have Abel’s first Christmas here.”
Olivia and Alex welcomed Abel, whose middle name is Jacob after Olivia’s brother, in June after a 30-hour labour which was marred with complications.
Revealing Abel’s heart rate dropped “a few times”, Olivia explained: “I was in the birthing pool then I had to get out as he had meconium, which is when they poo inside you and their heart rate drops as it’s stressful for them.
"He then ended up being delivered by forceps.”
