Report: Brooklyn Nets Trade Kyrie Irving to Dallas Mavericks After His Request to Leave

A few days earlier, the seven-time NBA All-Stars requested a trade from the Nets and hinted in a cryptic tweet that his decision came after he’s ‘manipulated.’

AceShowbizKyrie Irving is seemingly about to leave Brooklyn. According to reports, Brooklyn Nets are trading the seven-time NBA All-Stars to the Dallas Mavericks shortly after his request to leave.

The Nets reached an agreement on Sunday, February 5 to trade Kyrie to the Mavericks, according to three people familiar with the situation. They spoke on condition of anonymity because the trade had not yet been announced and they were not authorized to speak publicly about it.

The Nets were expected to receive Spencer Dinwiddie, a guard who played five seasons with the Nets from 2016-21, forward Dorian-Finney Smith, a first-round pick in 2029; and multiple second-round picks. The Mavericks will also receive the veteran forward Markieff Morris from the Nets. The deal could help the Mavericks (28-26) rise enough in the tightly contested Western Conference to contend for a championship this season.

The report came less than a week after Kyrie requested a trade from the Nets. Offering more details, the 30-year-old athlete tweeted, “To my Peers: JUST BE YOURSelf and GROW! Keep people around who CELEBRATE YOU unconditionally and appreciates all of the hard work that gets put in.” He later stressed, “Distance yourself from the folks who manipulate, hate, and hurt.”

It’s been reported that Kyrie requested a trade from the Nets amid issues over the contract. Over the past three and a half years, Kyrie and the Nets have had their issues. Previously, he had told his team that he wanted a contract extension.

According to reports, the Nets offered Kyrie a long-term deal. However, there were various “stipulations” that Kyrie did not agree with. One of these stipulations was that the final year was not fully guaranteed. After rejecting the proposal, he indicated to the team that he wanted to be traded before the deadline on February 9 and that he would leave in free agency if he didn’t get his move.
