Right Said Fred call Beyonce arrogant and claim she didnt ask permission for sample

Beyoncéhas been slammed as “arrogant” by band Right Said Fred, as they claim the singer didn't ask for permission to sample their hit I'm Too Sexy in her new song Alien Superstar.

These claims followaccusations of theft by fellow singer Kelis, who has accused Beyoncé of sampling her 2003 song Milkshake without her permission.

Both songs in question feature on the singer’s newest album Renaissance, which quickly shot up the charts to number one following its release in August.

Now Brothers Fred and Richard Fairbrass have branded the Halo songstress as “arrogant”, adding that other big names in the industry, includingTaylor SwiftandDrake, had asked permission to use rhythmic elements in some of their songs.

Right Said Fred released their debut single I'm Too Sexy in 1991, which peaked at number two in the UK charts and topped the charts in several other countries.

Speaking toThe Sunthe band said: “Normally the artist approaches us but Beyoncé didn’t because she is such an arrogant person she just had probably thought 'come and get me' so we heard about it after the fact when you did.

“But everyone else, Drake and Taylor Swift, they came to us.”

Drake samples I’m Too Sexy in his 2021 hit Way 2 Sexy, while Taylor used the iconic song on her 2017 Reputation lead single Look What You Made Me Do.

The brothers continued: “To use our melody they need our permission so they send us the demo and we approve it and if so we get a co-write credit.

“With this Beyoncé thing there are 22 writers. It's ridiculous so we would get about 40p.

“The reason that is happening we think is because there is so little money now in the actual sales people like friends, golfing partners, engineers, bookers and the guy who brings the coke, they all want a cut.”

However, the pair say they won't launch a legal battle with Beyoncé as she “has a lot more presence and power and money.”

“We can’t stop it. There is nothing we can do. It is s***,” they said, adding: “You are going to get into a conversation with someone who has a lot more presence and power and money than we do. And that won’t go well. It’s best to let it go.”

Earlier this year Beyoncé bagged herfourth solo UK number one albumwith Renaissance.

Renaissance, which is Beyoncé's seventh studio album, incorporates house music and Afrobeats and outsold its closest competition three to one to nab the top spot.
