Robbie Williams gets candid about the realities of taking ecstasy
Robbie Williams stops show
Robbie Williams has opened up about the effects of taking ecstasy in a candid Instagram post.
Writing to his 2.7 million followers, the 49-year-old father of four, who is married to American actress Ayda Field, began the update by giving an insight into how the drug works.
Quoting an official source, he wrote: “Ecstasy ‘by releasing large amounts of serotonin, MDMA causes the brain to become significantly depleted of this important neurotransmitter, contributing to the negative psychological aftereffects that people may experience for several days after taking MDMA’.”
He then went on to explain how the drug affected him personally, saying that he should have kept something in the “happy bank”.
“So, in essence, you borrow happiness from the future in one lump sum for a few hours on Friday night,” he explained.

“I was 18 and leaking my happy all over the place, dance floors, back seats of taxi cabs and strangers’ kitchens.
“At the weekend I would neck speed, do E’s, come down and then go and sing ‘A million love songs’’ on Top of the Pops. I don’t think I ever really got out of the red at the happy bank.
“Shame really I should of saved some for a rainy day,”(sic) he concluded.
Robbie has previously admitted missing taking Ecstasy in a 2016 interview with The Sun.
“I don’t want to drink and I don’t want to take coke, I’m really pleased I don’t take coke but I do think about ecstasy,” he said.

Robbie has been very open about his struggles with substance abuse in the past, including an addiction to painkillers.
Last year he described painkillers as “f****** evil” on the he Bought the T-Shirt podcast.
“I think drugs are like the equivalent to a Ouija board and you don’t know what you’re opening up,” he said. “I think when people talk about demons and sorting out their demons, I think they are actually demons.
“Let me tell you, the worst time I’ve ever had with drugs are painkillers. Nothing is a day trip or a walk in the park but pain medication is f****** evil. “Meanwhile, the people that own the patent for those pain medications are currently living in 50,000 square foot houses.”
Robbie has a history of going in and out of rehab and first checked into a clinic after he left Take That in 1995.
