Rylan Clark has revealed that his mum Linda feared he was having a stroke after his body “completely shut down” following his separation heartache from Dan Neal last year. The 33-year-old took a break away from his work commitments and kept a low profile following the news going public.

Now, the presenter has candidly opened up about just how bad it affected his health.

Speaking on Fearne Cotton’s My Happy Place podcast, he said: “My body did completely shut down. I wouldn’t eat.

“I went through a stage where I couldn’t even talk, which for some people might be quite handy.

“My speech was just slurred. My mum thought I was having a stroke. My body just went. I went down to 9st and I am six-foot-four.”

Rylan’s health issues iccured during a break away from his work commitments.

While he believes this didn’t help the “quick decline” in his health, he thinks it was for the best.

He added: “It was hard – but on reflection, yes, I needed to stop.

“Maybe it was an amalgamation of 10 years. I didn’t stop since the day I went on The X Factor.”

The presenter has also said he went down to nine stone due to not eating and was worried about his wellbeing.

“It got bad. Like, very bad. And I didn’t think it would get better. I needed help,” he told The Observer.

Following the news of his split, he told The Sun that he had “made a number of mistakes” that he “deeply” regretted.

He went on to say such mistakes is what “led to the breakdown of our marriage”.

Rylan added he was taking a break from work and seeking help.

He and Dan met back in 2013 and tied the knot two years later.

Guests at their wedding in Braxted Park in Essex included This Morning stars Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford.

After their big day, they made history by becoming the first gay couple to present the ITV show.

Back in July, he was rumoured to be dating Declan Doyle after the pair were pictured kissing.

Setting the record straight, he wrote on Instagram: “I’m not in a relationship, haven’t been for over a year and have no intention to.

“I’m looking after myself for a change and it’s staying that way.

“Hopefully this clears any fabricated stories up the past few weeks and to whoever is ‘selling’ them’.”
