Sam Faiers fires back at backlash over her first class flight moan: ‘You can’t win’
Former The Only Was Is Essex star Sam Faiers has hit back after facing backlash over her first class flight moan that saw fans brand her as "tone deaf."
Posting a photo of her first class flight home, Sam, 32, wrote, and then deleted a caption, which read: "The truth is going on holiday with small children is tough, especially with a crawling, teething baby…"
Sam then thanked the "accommodating and kind" Etihad Airways staff who she said had helped her when she felt "self-conscious" about flying with a baby and her two other young children, Paul Jr. and Rosie.
The comment section quickly filled with people branding Sam as "tone deaf" and "out of touch."
Opening up about the backlash on The Sam & Billie Show, the podcast she co-hosts with her older sister Billie Shepherd, Sam hit back at her critics, adding that she feels as though she "can't win".
Clarifying that the flights were gifted to her, Sam argued that it was part of her job to post about it, and that she wouldn't usually fly first class.
She began: "It's like, you kidding me? Like yes, I've flown business a few times, but not every time I fly is business. Like come on it's like once like once in a blue moon because that was part of the job.
"You just can't win, I had to post the flight because it was part of the job that we were there to do with the Tourism Board.
"And then I didn't want to speak about it being business because I did think, I'm just not like that to boast about business class seats. So I thought oh, you know, I will speak about the fact that I didn't sit down for a second."
The TV star said that she had hoped that her followers would relate to her struggles of holidaying with young children and was left rather surprised with the backlash she received instead.
Continuing her discussion with Billie, 33, she said: "I really can't be bothered to explain myself but it was like you know some people commenting saying things like, 'Oh look at you showing off in your business class flight.'
"Which I wasn't by the way, and I was talking about Edward's teeth", before adding again: "You just can't win."
The sisters then discussed how posting online in this way is part of their jobs, with Billie stepping in to defend her sister: "'It is frustrating because it's like, I feel like I've worked really hard, same as you, to get what we've got and to do what we do, we've worked hard for it.
"We've not sat around twiddling our thumbs."
While Sam added that their careers are "24/7" and they both argued that they're just "normal girls" and should be allowed to celebrate their successful TV and influencer careers.
