Shakira hit with more heartbreak as her mum is rushed to hospital
Shakira is facing fresh heartbreak in the wake of her mum being taken to hospital as a matter of “urgency” after being found to have a blood clot in her leg.
Her mother, Nidia Ripoll, was initially believed to have had a stroke but had since been diagnosed with a blood clot that’s reportedly linked to deep vein thrombosis.
Sources close to the singer confirmed the nature of Shakira’s mother’s hospitalisation to American Spanish-language TV broadcaster Telemundo.
Apparently the condition has not affected Nidia’s brain, but Shakira is yet to comment on her mother’s health.
She was taken to hospital on Friday, 17 March, and is now thought to be “out of danger”.
OK! have contacted Shakira’s representatives for comment.
Nidia’s hospital dash comes less than a year after Shakira’s 90 year old father was rushed to hospital after suffering a bad fall.
The Hips Don’t Lie singer told fans at the time: “Guys, I’m getting a lot of messages of concern that I was seen in an ambulance in Barcelona recently.
"I just wanted to let you know that those photos are from last weekend (the 28th) when my dad unfortunately had a bad fall and I accompanied him in an ambulance to the hospital where he is recovering now."
Accompanying the statement she posted a photo of her kissing her badly bruised father on the cheek. He could be seen wearing a hospital gown and had a bandage above his right eye.
As a result of her father’s poor health, Shakira decided to delay her move from Barcelona to Miami with her sons Milan, ten, and Sasha, nine.
She shares the youngsters with ex Gerard Pique, whom she split from last May after more than a decade together.
The pair reached a custody agreement in regard to their sons in November, with Gerard signing a contract that will allow him to spend holiday time with Milan and Sasha after 12 hours of negotiations.
Gerard and Shakira said in their joint statement at the time: “We wish to communicate that we have signed an agreement that guarantees the welfare of our children and that will be ratified in court as part of a mere formal procedure.
“Our sole objective is to provide them with the upmost security and protection, and we trust that their privacy will be respected.”
It’s thought their break-up has sparked Shakira’s intention to move to the US but it remains unclear if the songstress will once again postpone her move in the wake of her mother’s hospital admission.
