Shania Twain speaks out about ex after he ran off with best friend

Shania Twain opened up about her ex-husband, music producer Robert “Mutt” Lange, betraying her with her best friend and employee Marie-Anne Thiebaud, back in 2008.

Although it’s rare for her to address the subject publicly, the Man! I Feel Like A Woman star admitted in a new interview that she now no longer talks to him unless it’s to discuss their 21-year-old son Eja.

The 57-year-old also said that Robert and Marie are still together to this day.

Talking to actor Dax Shepard on his Armchair Expert podcast, Shania said she had been “uncontrollably fragile” about the scandal, but that one silver lining has come from her suffering – she married her former friend’s ex-husband after their shared heartbreak brought them together.

“Mutt and I parent well together — for people who don’t talk to each other,” the Grammy Award-winning songstress divulged.

Explaining that they share mature communication by text only, she added: “We both love our son so much, so we don’t play any games like that.”

She added that they “share spaces” for the benefit of Eja, who turns 22 this year and despite his young age, has already been a musician for several years.

Shania admitted that she had been “uncontrollably fragile” for the first time in her life when she broke up with her husband all those years earlier.

Robert, or “Mutt”, as she calls him, had first met her in the 1990s after he offered to produce some songs for one of her albums, and the pair quickly fell for each other.

When they moved to Switzerland, they hired Marie-Anne as an assistant to do secretarial work, and Shania became firm friends with her.

Robert told Shania that he wanted a divorce in the summer of 2008, but didn’t give her a full reason, according to People.

Shania says she even went to Marie-Anne at the time to ask for advice.

She told Oprah Winfrey: “I said, ‘Marie-Anne, don’t you think my husband is acting strange?’ And she said, ‘No, I don’t see anything strange.'”

Gradually, Shania then started falling for Marie-Anne’s husband, Frederic, the man who she says discovered the affair, after being attracted to “how gracefully and graciously he was dealing with navigating the same pain”.

Frederic, an executive for the Nestle confectionery company, helped her to heal her hurt – and they are still together to this day, living in Switzerland.

“I got what I deserve… the best man on the planet,” she added to Dax Shepard.

However, the star has more stern words for Marie-Anne, previously revealing on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live: “I wish I’d never met you.”
