CORONATION STREET

Scottish accents are interesting: they can be very calming and comforting (it’s the reason many companies have based their call centres in Scotland) but also occasionally menacing. Andrew Still, who is terrifying Daisy as stalker Justin, brilliantly manages to combine both tones as his campaign to break up Daniel and Daisy gathers pace. The ex-Waterloo Road and Hollyoaks actor is extraordinary in making his character’s behaviour seem almost normal, despite it being clear that he is deluded, if not deranged. Events escalate when Christina introduces Daisy to her new boyfriend, and he is none other than Justin. That’s some age gap! Surely Christina would have smelled a rat. Life gets even worse for Daisy when she suspects Justin’s found out her wedding date and then finds him in the house.

When will people in Weatherfield learn that leaving the back door open is never a good idea? When will anyone get a locksmith to replace their pathetic locks with a mortice? Surely, if you had a stalker, the first thing you’d do upon arriving home would be to make sure nobody could get in? Daisy’s last hope is the Stalking Protection Order hearing, but will Justin’s arrival at court, claiming there has been a misunderstanding, fool the judge?

Stephen’s proposal might turn out to be a good thing – for him, anyway – when Tim finds Elaine looking at a country cottage on her laptop. The writers and actor Todd Boyce (Stephen) are having so much fun with this storyline. I never want it to end, though end it inevitably will. When Elaine says she and Stephen will be spending a lot of time at her new place, Tim’s concerned about his mum. It’s when Stephen suggests putting in a patio that he really needs to worry. Serial killers, patios and wives are never a good combination.

Amy is understandably in a state following her night with Aaron, who she knows is lying about the sex being consensual. But will she come clean to Summer?

DAN’S DESPERATE

It’s been a thin line between a rocky patch and a trek in the Rocky Mountains for Corrie’s Daisy and Daniel. Rob Mallard says his character Daniel ‘just wants the wedding done and over with’. Don’t we all.

EASTENDERS

Can Denise put Jack off the scent of lover Ravi?

The coat has to go. Now down to just one button struggling to maintain its composure, Jack’s beige signature outfit is long past its wear-by date. Scott Maslen, who has played Jack since 2007, is not only a wonderful actor, he’s the show’s top totty and deserves more than having his fine frame squeezed into such a costume. As Jack’s investigation into Ravi gathers pace, Denise is concerned and tries to persuade him to reconsider. Fat chance of that. If she can’t persuade him to buy another coat, she stands little chance of interfering with his police work.

In the Vic, Denise is jealous when Ravi walks in with a date and upset when she learns the pair are off to the same hotel he took her to. This is absurd. A few weeks ago, Denise told Ravi she had no interest in him, being of inferior meat to the ‘steak’ she had at home. Jack isn’t just steak: he’s filet mignon, T-bone, ribeye… Nothing against the handsome Aaron Thiara, who plays Ravi, but I’m not buying this alleged hot passion; I’m more stirred thinking about Stacey’s baps.

Talking of unconvincing couplings, the Suki/Eve drama bangs on, but is Suki in danger when Nish discovers his wife lied about dissuading Ash from taking a job in Canada? North America must be desperate for medics.

EMMERDALE

Will Marlon be able to excavate Paddy from his dressing gown? That’s the million-dollar question when he encourages his friend to seek professional help. Although relieved to hear Paddy calling a counselling service, Marlon worries that there’s a two-week wait to see someone. Is that all? I know people who’ve been given a date close to a year away. Surely, on a vet’s salary, Paddy could go private. But the important thing is to encourage men in particular to reach out and open up about their problems. Women, Chas tells Marlon, are generally better at dealing with their emotions because they speak to their friends. She should know. She never stops banging on – and she still manages to mess up her life. Jimmy says the community of the pub is his therapy, and so, as nine local guys gather in the Woolpack, their hope is that Paddy will join them.

Given all the problems facing everyone in this village, maybe what they need is to move a full-time therapist into the area; Cain is certainly a man who could benefit from one. Having done everything he can to gain greater access to Kyle, he now sees himself as a malign influence. Horrified by his plan to cut himself out of Kyle’s life, Moira tells him it’s a mistake that would haunt him to his dying day. Hmm. A bit like when he married you, Moira.

MEN’S NIGHT AT THE WOOLPACK

On Friday, Emmerdale will be airing an episode featuring only men at a late-night lock-in at the Woolpack. In the light of Paddy’s depression, the aim is to highlight the importance of men sharing their deepest thoughts and feelings. Inspired by real stories from the charity Andy’s Man Club, producer Laura Shaw says, ‘If watching some of our most loved characters opening up to each other encourages just one person to reach out and start talking, we will be extremely thankful.’
