Katie Piper in tears after ’72 hours from hell’ including burst eye vessel and lost luggage

Loose Women’s Katie Piper was reduced to tears as she experienced the journey "from hell" while flying to America.

Katie, who is often seen on the daytime talk show with the likes of Charlene White, Ruth Langsford and Stacey Solomon, flew to the US to film her new W documentary, Babies Behind Bars, which will see her interview women who are pregnant in prison.

The documentary will follow the pregnant women as they attempt to juggle serving their time and doing the best for their unborn babies.

The show will feature five episodes and is set for a late 2023 release.

Katie documented the “72 hours from hell” on her Instagram story on Sunday when she shared a snap of her daughter Belle, eight, alongside the caption: “Said goodbye to the kids for the next 10 days.”

“Then proceed to have 72 hours from hell after that…” she added, with a picture in her airplane seat.

“The day before my flight, blood vessels burst in my bad eye. Luckily I was able to fly and I'm fine, it was more mentally caused me stress and anxiety,” she wrote alongside a picture of the burst vessel.

But the chaos did not stop there, as after the colossal flight, Katie discovered that her luggage had been lost or stolen.

She penned: “After a 10 hour flight, I landed in Atlanta to find out my luggage had been lost/stolen. I stayed in the airport for hours trying to locate it but it was a lost cause.

“I'm now on my next flight heading to Houston with one pair of pants, a new toothbrush from the airport and the same outfit I was in yesterday. Had a bit of a secret cry in the toilet and felt better!”

Katie, who sparked Ofcom complaints earlier this month following comments she made about TikTok star Gothic Baby, then recorded herself walking through George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

She continued: “Okay, I've just lauded in Houston, 14 hours of travel completed.

“I am absolutely praying the one remaining suitcase I have on this trip is at baggage complaint, baggage claim. Please pray for me and send positive thoughts.”

Last year, Katie experienced optical issues after her husband, Richard James Sutton, noticed a black hole in her eye.

On Twitter, she explained: "Emergency Operation for me! On Saturday my husband noticed a small black circle in my blind eye, I was excited thinking I had a pupil again, but by Sunday my left eye was extremely painful and couldn’t tolerate light, so I patched it up and put it down to old injuries."

Katie discovered that her eye had perforated and required surgery, before adding: “This had always been a fear that it would happen. Yesterday @SherazDaya sourced tissue for me and operated.

"I cannot thank him and his team enough, their knowledge and expertise but also how kind and caring they all are.”
