Spencer Matthews accuses Jamie Laing of 'serious miscommunication'
‘I wasn’t invited to the wedding’: Spencer Matthews hits back at best pal Jamie Laing after being ‘absolutely hammered’ for ‘snubbing’ his nuptials
Spencer Matthews has accused best friend Jamie Laing of ‘serious miscommunication’ amid claims he ‘snubbed’ the Made In Chelsea star’s recent wedding.
Laing married long-term girlfriend and co-star Sophie Habboo at Chelsea Registry Office on Friday morning, but Matthews, wife Vogue and their children were curiously absent from the ceremony.
Instead Matthews and his family were abroad on a planned holiday in Portugal, and he has since clarified their reason for missing the service, which will be followed by a second wedding ceremony in Seville on May 19.
Discussing Laing’s wedding on the Spencer & Vogue Podcast, the TV personality, 34, and his presenter wife admitted and they were unhappy with the criticism levelled at them for not attending.
Matthews said: ‘I’m being hammered for ‘snubbing’ my best friend’s wedding to go on holiday, and then posting about my holiday.

‘I’m not here to b***h about my best friends but there’s been some serious miscommunication from him.
‘I just want set the record straight, more than anything. I’m not here to whinge. I was not invited to this part of Jamie’s wedding, and neither was Vogue.’
Williams added: ‘Sophie looked absolutely magnificent, we were absolutely thrilled for them, but we also did not know it was happening because we were not invited.’
The presenter also revealed she was ‘fuming’ to miss out on an invite to the Chelsea service because a scheduling clash means she will also be forced to miss their second overseas ceremony in May.
She said: ‘I’m raging because I can’t actually go to the wedding, and it’s not my fault. My manager messed up my schedule and I actually have a show on the day of Jamie’s wedding.’

The couple said they returned from their overseas break to be confronted by an ‘inbox full of messages’ accusing them of ‘snubbing’ the service.
And Matthews insists he was ‘p***ed off’ to not receive an invite, as he would have ‘flown to Japan’ in order to attend.
He said: ‘Long story short I didn’t get the call up to the wedding, and about ten days ago I was with him recording [podcast] Sixty Degrees.
‘I said is there anything I can do for this registry? Is there anything I can do for you given I’m a part of this wedding and I’m one of your best men?
‘And he said no, this is a very small family thing and you don’t have to do anything – there’s nobody coming to it. It’s tiny.’
Matthews says he took Laing at his word, but was astonished when he returned from Portugal to discover published pictures from the wedding featuring his best friend surrounded by numerous groomsmen.
He said: ‘I’ve got an inbox full of messages full of furious people that are like, I’m not there. Well I’m quite p***ed off myself, to be honest, that I’ve not got the call up.’

Matthews revealed he called Laing for an explanation the next day, and was told the service ended up being bigger than they had originally planned.
‘They decided to make more of a thing of it, but I was away so it didn’t cross his mind,’ he said. ‘And I was like, I would’ve flown over from Japan for that because you’re my best friend and I would’ve loved to have been there.
‘I don’t really think you made the right call deciding for me, when you could’ve asked and I would’ve come.’
Williams added: ‘Jamie does have a lot going on, to be fair, and we’re in no way having a go at Jamie or Sophie.
‘We hope they had a great day and we do wish we were there, but I actually genuinely think they thought f**k it they’re in Portugal, it doesn’t matter.
‘I’m just raging because I could’ve gone to one of them. Now I won’t get to go to any of them.’

While they missed the ceremony, Laing and Habboo were joined by family and friends at the wedding including the bride’s sister Georgia and mother and father as well as Jamie’s mother and sister.
Their Made In Chelsea co-stars including Melissa Tattam and Gigi & Olive founder Georgie Le Roux were also in attendance.
Sophie’s £3,865 dress for the legal ceremony was from Vivienne Westwood and is called The Mini Cora Cocotte – inspired by the seminal Cocotte shape.
The gown was first created for the 21st birthday of Vivienne’s granddaughter – Cora Corré, as a full length gown.
In their first joint interview the couple insisted they would not be turning their marriage into a reality spinoff show because relationships have a better chance of surviving away from the cameras.
Candy Kittens owner Laing told MailOnline reality TV is ‘tough on the soul’ and after realising he wanted to marry former co-star Sophie he knew his departure from Made In Chelsea was inevitable.
He revealed: ‘We got asked to do a TV show but it’s tricky. I have done reality for so long and it’s tough on the soul. I don’t think TV is ever on your own terms so unless you have control over those things then it’s quite difficult.
‘It’s one of those things that you must decide whether you want to go down the reality TV route again or not.
‘Once you get married, what happens then? Do we do another show about being married… when does it end? For the moment I am parking reality.’
