The Spice Girls’ upcoming reunion documentary is likely to start a bidding war among streaming giants.

The team behind the project, which will see all five members of the group reunited for the first time in years, are pitching it now to the biggest streaming services.

They believe that only the market leaders will have the money to buy the programme and the reach to get it out to the legendary girl band’s international fan base.

A TV insider told The Sun: “It’s unlikely you’ll be seeing this show on the BBC or ITV as competition is rife and it would cost too much.

“The global reach is very important as they have millions of fans around the world, who will be keen to see the fab five reunited.

“They also know that their British fans will go to any lengths to ensure they see their idols.”

The 1990s superstars went on a short reunion tour in 2019 but it only featured four out of five of the band members, with Victoria Beckham declining to take part.

Feedback on the documentary so far is said to be “incredibly positive” and industry sources say it will be “must-watch” television.

It is being compared to the 2005 Take That documentary For The Record, and the Friends: The Reunion TV special in 2021,

Last year, the girls confirmed that it was being made by the team behind The Last Dance, the acclaimed Netflix series about basketball superstar Michael Jordan.

Scary Spice Mel B said: “The director and the whole concept of how that was shot and filmed is really, really, really good. So we’ll be doing our own version.”

Rumours of the reunion leading to new music and possible live performances remain unconfirmed.
