Strictly Come Dancing beauty blunder leaves Katya and Dianne battling Amy’s trousers

We’ve all had THOSE sort of Saturday nights when we’ve ended up helping out a friend with some emergency clothing adjustments. And we now know that something rather similar went down at this weekend’s Strictly Come Dancing, thanks to a hilariously candid video of Amy Dowden’s wardrobe struggles – which were all caused by her makeup.

Viewers of the hit BBC1 show saw Amy and her professional partner James Bye take on a Cha Cha Cha for Movie Week, dressed as Gamora and Peter Quill from Guardians Of The Galaxy. To get fully into her character, Amy had swapped the usual liberal layers of fake tan for a thick coating of green face and body paint, a beauty transformation that caused chaos away from the cameras.

A newly posted behind-the-scenes Instagram clip shows Amy with her arms aloft and giggling as her fellow professional dancers Katya Jones and Dianne Busswell battle to fix her slipping costume. Katya, who posted the clip on her Insta Stories, can be seen jumping up and down, desperately trying to wrench up her colleague’s tight-fitting outfit.

“Amy had her hands painted green and couldn’t touch anything but needed her pants pulled up! So we gave her a hand!” Katya captioned the video, explaining the off-screen slapstick.

Katya tagged in Dianne Buswell, who can also be seen trying to lend a hand and get their friend ready without smudging her body makeup. “It’s showtime! Everybody needs a little help from their friends” added Katya, with a laughing emoji.

Amy’s completely Marvel-lous look was created by makeup artist Nadine O’Toole who posted her own – slightly more composed – backstage imagery of the Welsh dancer. “Gamora Glam on @amy_dowden. Who still looks stunning with a full face of green paint!” We couldn’t agree more, and we've made a note for our Halloween costume shortlist.

Alas, Amy and James weren’t given out of this world scores to match their costumes, managing just 22 out of 40. Craig Revel-Horwood panned the performance as "flat-footed and absolutely no hip action". However, the dance did manage to win one high-profile fan – Guardian of the Galaxy filmmaker James Gunn. He posted a clip of the performance to Hooked On A Feeling and joked on Twitter: "Can't decide whether I should keep this scene in Vol 3."

Viewers, meanwhile, decided to keep Amy and James in the show, with the public vote speeding the pair through to Saturday’s show. We can’t wait to see what spectacular get-up Amy and the rest of the Strictly dancers will be wearing next week!
