Strictly’s Graziano’s wife on special meaning behind castle wedding and two dresses
Graziano Di Primi’s wife Giada has shared the special meaning behind their choice stunning wedding venue, a 14-century castle on a hill overlooking the Mediterranean in the south of Sicily.
The professional dancer, 32, has revealed how the Strictly Come Dancing star, 28, would take her to the grounds of the fortress on his Vesper before he was famous, and they would dream of tying the knot there one day back in 2014.
“Graziano used to bring me to the castle gate when we first started dating and he didn’t have a car, only a Vespa,” said Giada, who is from Schiavon – a town close to Venice in the north of Italy.
“I used to reach my hand inside the gate to see if we could get into the castle but it was always locked. We never imagined then that we’d have the money to rent it for our wedding. Sicily was the perfect location to remind us of how it all began.”
While Giada is from the north of Italy, Graziano was born and bred in the south in Sicily and left aged 17 to pursue his dancing dreams.
He would travel 15 hours by bus to see Giada when they first started dating – and wooed her with true love rather than extravagant gifts.
She told of their love story, “In the beginning I thought it was a chemistry that would go away but Graziano told me he was in love with me,” she explains. “He was present in my life for one year after the TV show, sending me flowers, inviting me to events, travelling by bus for 15 hours from Sicily to Rome to see me.
"Then he brought me to Sicily and introduced me to his family. They didn’t have much because he wasn’t famous from Strictly, but what he gave me in love is something I’ll never forget.
“He was so proud to show me his friends and family, for me it was priceless. It’s from that day I knew I loved
him,” she reveals.
Graziano says he knew Giada was The One instantly, added: “Since we met each other eight years ago, I knew she was The One – I fell in love instantly. She is the most extraordinary woman I have ever met.
"The fact we have got married in Sicily, my town, after two years of postponing the wedding with all our family and our friends to witness – it was a feeling so strong. I was watching everything around me as though I was 10 years old again when I used to live here, but I’m a man now and I’ve married Giada."
Giada pickied out her “princess” wedding dress – the first of two she wore – from a shop called Indaco Spose in Sicily in December 2019, before the original summer 2020 wedding was cancelled twice due to Covid-19.
“I tried on at least 15 dresses,” she said. “Mum really wanted me to find one I loved because she didn’t have that chance when she was young.
"In the beginning, I wanted a fishtail one, which became my second dress, but when I tried the princess dress on, I was like ‘wow’. I chose it in 2019 and had to delete all the photos off my phone because Graziano kept trying to look at it!”
In September, the couple – who live in London but also have a house near Venice – will be forced apart as Graziano takes part on the new series of Strictly, while Giada joins the Italian version, Dancing With The Stars.
“We will be apart for a few months, but now Covid is done I can get a flight to see Graziano,” said Giada. “Being apart is the hardest thing. Three months last year is the longest we’ve been without each other.”
Graziano added, “We hope to go on our honeymoon in December after Strictly. We want to go to Cuba.”
Naturally, the couple are beginning to think about their next steps and starting their own family. “For sure it’s going to happen, but we don’t know when,” said Graziano. “It has to come naturally. At the moment we are really happy enjoying just us.”
