His latest role is as the voice of a streetwise animated cat in The Amazing Maurice. But Hugh Laurie had a bit of a hangdog expression as he took his pet pooch for a walk.

As the 63-year-old actor strolled around his north London neighbourhood in a red woolly hat and padded jacket, his grimace seemed more in keeping with the curmudgeonly Dr Gregory House, his character in the US television drama House.

Already known in the UK for his performances with Stephen Fry, Laurie gained worldwide fame playing the grumpy medic from 2004 to 2012.

Walking his dog, the 63-year-old actor was seen walking around north London

The Cambridge University graduate was spotted out with a dog last summer – on that occasion looking significantly more dishevelled and sporting a bushy grey beard.

He has previously spoken of his affection for his dogs, paying a touching tribute when his last pet, Stanley, died in February 2019.

Alongside a picture posted on Twitter at the time, he wrote: ‘Stanley C. Brown departed this earth last night after 17 years.

‘He was the dearest, gentlest, daftest, handsomest companion anyone could hope for. It was a privilege.’

In Laurie’s latest film, The Amazing Maurice, he voices an animated streetwise ginger cat.

‘I loved doing it and the animation is astounding – it is terrific and I look really handsome as a cat,’ he told the Graham Norton Show last month.

‘The film is a lot of fun and utterly charming. I am very proud of it.’
