Timothee Chalamet Explains Why He Decided to Do Wonka Movie

Timothee Chalamet is opening up about his reasoning for wanting to do the upcoming Wonka prequel movie.

The 27-year-old actor will of course be playing a young Willy Wonka in the film, which is set to be released later this year.

Wonka is being described as an exploration of the “vivid, mythical beginnings of the imaginative young inventor before he becomes the renowned scrumdiddlyumptious Mozart of chocolate,” according to THR.

In a recent interview, Timothee shared that he wanted to take on this role for a younger audience.

“To work on something that will have an uncynical young audience, that was just a big joy,” he told Vogue. “That’s why I was drawn to it. In a time and climate of intense political rhetoric, when there’s so much bad news all the time, this is hopefully going to be a piece of chocolate.”

Wonka is set to hit theaters on December 15, 2023. Check out photos of Timothee on set in full costume last year!

Timothee is also starring in the upcoming Dune sequel, which recently debuted it’s first trailer – watch here.
