Ulrika Jonsson admits to on-set fling as Broadchurch star ‘walks out on Emmerdale wife’

Ulrika Jonsson has admitted she once had an on-set fling with a co-star.

The presenter, 55, admitted that it can be hard to avoid sparks flying while working together in showbiz and admitted to falling for someone who wasn’t her husband while filming a project.

In her latest column, Ulrika writes how sparks flew between her and a co-star while she was filming for Gladiators in the 90s.

After finding fame as a weather presenter, Ulrika went on to present the ITV game show between 1992-2000, admitting that she developed feelings for an unnamed colleague she met while on set.

The presenter wrote: “While I was filming Gladiators on location for a month 27 years ago, I fell for someone who, awkwardly and inappropriately, wasn’t my then-husband."

She added in The Sun: “For me, certainly, it came down to escapism. I’d had a chance to get away from everything — husband and young child.

“I was free to abandon my domestic responsibilities and simply focus on being me.”

Ulrika wrote of her romance in reference to Broadchurch actor Andrew Buchan, who has reportedly split from actress wife Amy Nuttall and has now fallen for a co-star.

The actor, 44, is believed to now be living with his co-star Leila Farzad, 39, after the pair met while starring in new BBC thriller Better.

The duo take on the lead roles in the new crime drama series, which sees Leila play Lou Slack, a corrupt police detective who allows the crimes of gangster Col McHugh, played by Andrew, slide in exchange for tip offs to advance her career.

A source told the newspaper: “It was a huge shock. Amy is heartbroken.”

OK! previously approached representatives for Andrew Buchan, Amy Nutall and Leila Farzad for comment.

Andrew and Amy, who has also starred in Emmerdale, have been married since 2012.

Andrew previously spoke about his marriage to Amy, saying that both of them being actors helps them understand each other's schedules.

“It definitely helps that Amy’s an actor," he told The Express. "Who else would be OK with the absences or with you doing theatre on Christmas Eve? It helps so much if someone gets it.”

Andrew is known for playing the father of murdered Danny Latimer in Broadchurch on ITV and has also made appearances in Netflix’s The Crown as Andrew Parker Bowles and Sky Atlantic’s This Is England as politician Matt Hancock.

Amy found fame as the youngest understudy to ever play the lead of Christine in The Phantom of the Opera at just 17, before getting her break a year later in Emmerdale as Chloe Atkinson. She appeared in Downtown Abbey as housemaid Ethel Parks.
