Vernon Kay has spoken of his heartbreak after the death of his friend last week. Taking to Instagram, the TV personality paid tribute to Ian Trevor, who was known to his loved ones as “Big Ian,” and a good friend of the on-screen presenter for more than a quarter of a century.

The father-of-two took to the picture-sharing site on Monday as he penned a moving tribute to his pal who died suddenly at the age of 61.

Ian, a security manager for Formula E, had grown close to Vernon early on in his career and the pair had remained firm friends since.

Vernon, who is married to Strictly host Tess Daly, began: “I’m absolutely gutted to hear of the passing of my friend Ian.

“Ian was the close protection for all the @fiaformulae family but for me much more… Ian was the guy who looked after me when I was scouted by @selectmodellondon in Dec96’ at the ClothesShowLive. 26yrs ago. We had a tight bond that’s unique with friends.”

He finished: “Ian you’ll be greatly missed. Sending my love to his family. RIP.”

Friends of Ian commented on their shared devastation under the post with motorsports presenter Nicki Shields writing: “Devastating. He loved you Vern. Every time I’d chat with Big Ian, the 2nd thing he would ask without fail… ‘Nick, is Vern here yet?’

“A true legend with the most infectious smile and positive energy. He will leave a huge hole in the paddock.”

Another motorsports friend and colleague wrote: “We only had couple of conversations in the paddock last season but he was a truly lovely bloke. I’m gutted.”

Matt remarked: “Rip Ian, when I met him I could instantly tell how close you both were, very sad news.”

Will shared: “No! Such sad news. What a gentle giant and a very funny and caring personality. He will be sorely missed by all. RIP.”

Phillip shared: “Really sad. Lovely man.”

While Mac added: “Sorry for your loss mate.”

More recently, Vernon shared he got an inking of another man on his back – but decided against telling his wife.

The I’m A Celebrity finalist got a back tattoo of former NFL player Eli Manning for a cheeky joke.

Vernon explained: “I went on the Eli Manning Show – he’s a big sports celebrity in the States who’s won two Super Bowls with the New York Giants.

“They wanted me to go on the show to explain what American Football is perceived as over here in the UK, and I thought, ‘well, I’m not going to go on there and just do a boring chat.’”

He continued to OK! Magazine: “So I told the producer, ‘Listen, I have something to show you’ and he wangled it [the tattoo] into the questions that Eli was asking, about a bet that I allegedly had with a friend.

“That the loser would have the winning quarterback’s face tattooed on their back.”

Vernon later revealed his back tattoo of Eli Manning’s face but explained the ink was only semi-permanent.
