Smashing idea! Andy Murray plans to build nine luxury woodland cabins in grounds of award-winning hotel he runs with wife Kim
- Sir Andy bought the 15-room Cromlix House Hotel for almost £2m in 2013
- Wife Kim, 35, says she is delighted to be overseeing the makeover
- Five-star hotel has rooms named after Sir Alex Ferguson and Annie Lennox
Sir Andy Murray has lodged plans to build luxury woodland cabins in the grounds of his hotel to accommodate more guests.
The double Wimbledon champion bought the 15-room Cromlix House Hotel near his hometown of Dunblane for almost £2 million in 2013.
It has since become a five-star hotel with an Albert Roux restaurant and has won a string of hospitality industry awards.
It was run by a management firm until December when Murray, 35, and wife Kim, 35, announced they would be taking over the running of it.
A planning application has been submitted to Stirling Council for nine cabins of varying sizes to be erected in woodland surrounding the hotel building.

The largest cabin will feature three bedrooms, a games room, rooftop terrace and a two-bedroom guest wing.
A design statement accompanying the application reads: ‘The proposal consists of nine cabins located to the north of the hotel within an established woodland setting.
‘The cabins offer guests with a choice of accommodation, from the one bedroom Treetop, two-bedroom Lochan and Woodland, to the luxury Retreat Cabin with three bedrooms and additional two-bedroom guest wing.
‘All the cabins have interior layouts with space standards provision for good accessibility and are orientated to maximise the sense of place within the landscape.

‘The overall project proposals will contribute to the business case for the emerging Cromlix Vision that is currently being developed and delivered as part of an ongoing economic and creative investment for its future.’
The local authority is due to make a decision on the application by May.
The hotel is currently closed until March 21 while interior refurbishments are carried out and Kim has told how she is delighted to be overseeing the makeover.
She said: ‘It feels like the right time to look to the future, and what we can achieve over the next 10 years and beyond.
‘The hotel has closed for a three-month refurbishment which is the first stage in a series of planned works to breathe fresh life into both the building and business.
‘This is very much a family affair and I am delighted to be getting involved in overseeing this makeover (selecting wallpapers, toiletries, logos and everything in between!) so that Cromlix becomes more reflective of our personal tastes and attitudes.’
Cromlix has become the venue for Murray family gatherings.
The Cromlix has rooms named after Scottish figures, including William Wallace and Chris Hoy
The hotel currently has 15 rooms and suites and has won Scottish Hotel of the Year twice
The tennis star held his wedding reception at the hotel in April 2015 after getting married to Kim, 35, at Dunblane cathedral while elder brother Jamie was also married there.
The 15 rooms and suites are named after some of Scotland’s most recognisable figures, including Sir Chris Hoy, Sir Alex Ferguson, Annie Lennox, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and William Wallace.
It has twice won Scottish Hotel of the Year at the Hospitality Awards and in 2018 became one of only two Five Star Gold Country House Hotels in Scotland following a grading by VisitScotland.
