The brainchild of talented professional photographers Paul Joynson-Hicks and Tom Sullam, the funny pet photo competition was established to honour the invaluable and positive role that pets play in our lives.
Furthermore, it serves as a platform to foster awareness and engagement around animal welfare, a cause close to the hearts of many.
Among the top finalists, we are treated to a playful cat striking a triumphant victory pose, a mischievous dog channelling their inner Zorro, a feline athlete poised to take a free kick, and a heartwarming image of a dog tenderly cuddling an orangutan.

These snapshots capture the magic of our furry friends in moments of pure joy and silliness.
Now, the 25 shortlisted images face the discerning eyes of an expert panel of judges, all dedicated animal lovers.
This esteemed panel comprises renowned TV presenter, writer, conservationist, and avid animal enthusiast Kate Humble and the multi-talented comedian, TV presenter, and writer Mel Geidroyc.
Meanwhile esteemed TV vet and animal welfare campaigner Emma Milne, and the accomplished pet photographer Elke Vogelsang also make up the panel.
Reflecting on the competition, one of the co-founders of the Comedy Pets, expressed their excitement, saying, ‘Once again, we have been treated to some truly hilarious entries, showcasing an astonishing variety of animals.
‘From mischievous ferrets to leisurely tortoises and even donkeys, alongside the countless comical cats and dogs, this year’s competition has been a riot of laughter and enjoyment.’
Now, the quest begins to crown the Overall Winner of Comedy Pets 2023.
Additionally, the People’s Choice Award, where everyone can participate, will recognise the image that captures the hearts of the public.
The 2023 Comedy Pet Winners will be announced on 11 August.

This photograph, entitled ‘Kylian’s Sleep’ shows one pooch cuddling up with an adorable cuddly toy, who appears to be offering some puppy love to the dog

The 498th Round of Hide and Seek. Misty the spaniel desperately wanted to play with Nala, the dignified older lady of the menagerie. She wasn’t that keen – fortunately Misty was pretty terrible at hide and seek
Reflecting on the competition, one of the co-founders of the Comedy Pets, expressed their excitement, saying the pictures are ‘hilarious’
Having a lazy day! One feline appeared particularly happy to be enjoying some time in the sunshine in this photograph taken in Japan
Flying fluff! This photograph shows Barney, the toy poodle, as he was caught mid-flight whilst running
Who Are You? One contributor revealed: ‘Our cat Lilly played with a mouse, we saved the mouse and our dog Amy was fascinated by the mouse.’
Zorro Reborn! ‘The avenger of the poor is back, but this time as a dog and not on a horse, but in a car! The obligatory black mask is a must, of course,’ another contributor revealed
This snap, entitled Edgar’s Dandelions, shows the beautiful Edgar chewing on her favourite food – which are the leaves and flowers of dandelions
Puppy love! They do say that owners can look like their pets – and one particular animal lover appeared to share a very similar hair style with their pooch
Victory! One of the images competing for the crown in the prestigious competition shows this cat reaching for the sky in a triumphant pose

Flying high! One snap shows a pooch appearing to beam with joy as he enjoys some time in a garden with his owner
The Big Boss! The petowner who contributed this snap of their four cats revealed: ‘Big Boss is the Boss around here.He is gentle and kindness just big.’
Barking mad! One contributor shared the story of how they managed to get this incredible photograph, revealing: ‘In March 2019 I was sat in the Union Sq New York dog run when I spotted a lady with a pink bag on her hand (to keep her hand clean) throwing a ball to her dog which was sat down facing her. The dog then launched itself and flipped in mid air to face me and snap! As you can see the lady with her hand on her head was as surprised as me and I think she is saying phew! I have searched in vain via the NY media to find the owner so that I can send her a copy. No joy so I am hoping this Pet Comedy competition can help me find the mystery woman and her leaping dog. You never know!’
My Face When My Crush Says Hi! The contributor revealed: ‘We tried to get a dreamy autumn photo of Milo – instead of lying a bit on his side he rolled around like crazy. His family loves this shot because it shows his personality better than any other picture.’
Like puppy, like owner! At first glance, this picture could appear to show three greyhounds sitting side by side – but take a second look!
Little Daisy And Her Big Future! The contributor for this adorable snap revealed: ‘Two sisters from different litters: self-confident Crystal and cute baby Daisy.’
‘Bobby reaching for the ball against a beautiful sunset. We were taking photos of Bobby as the sun was quickly setting and disappearing behind the hill. I was changing the setting on my camera, to keep the detail on a black dog against a nice sky and soon realised, just go with the simple option and shoot him as a silhouette,’ the photographer revealed
‘Alex is the shy one. Max is the playful one. Together they form a lethally cute duo. I had more fun taking photos of these two than during my most adventurous wildlife photography trips.’
Pop Up! The photographer revealed he was charmed by this photograph of a kitten, adding: ‘He seems to pop out of the autumn leaves, doesn’t he?’
