CHELSEA’s miserable season will finally draw to a close on Sunday – will it be yet another defeat for Frank Lampard when Newcastle visit Stamford Bridge?

Chelsea vs Newcastle betting preview
Chelsea have been easy to oppose in the past couple of months and it’s not hard to take them on again on the final day.
Thursday’s 4-1 loss at Old Trafford summed up their season pretty well.
While showing they clearly have some decent footballers in their massive squad, the lack of quality in both boxes shone through.
The defeat made it one win in 13 for the Blues with nine of those matches lost.
They will now finish in the bottom half of the Premier League for the first time since 1995/96, while their points total will be their lowest since their last relegation in 1987/88.

It’s a pretty terrible state of affairs given the club has been awash with money for some time and clearly the new manager has a major job on his hands.
But, in the here and now, it’s hard to see what Frank Lampard can do. His best bet is probably to hope that Newcastle ease up.
They may well have had a few celebratory drinks after Monday’s draw with Leicester – a game they dominated – clinched a place in next season’s Champions League.
We saw with Manchester City in midweek how losing that focus can lead to a bit of a dip and that’s probably the visitors’ biggest worry here.
Still, at close to 6/4 they look a decent-enough price, even when taking that factor into account.

Chelsea vs Newcastle best bets
Newcastle to win
Chelsea have lost nine of their last 13 games, winning just one of them – it’s been a truly miserable end to a truly miserable season.
Quite why Newcastle aren’t shorter is hard to fathom. They’ve won nine of their last 13, a statistic which should be even better given how the Magpies battered Newcastle on Monday night.
That draw saw them secure a top-four finish with a game to spare and so I guess that’s the danger here – there’s clear potential for them to ease up.
Then again, Chelsea’s players have looked like they’ve wanted to season to end for some time and even a Newcastle side below their best seem capable of winning this.

Half-time score 0-0
Largely a data-based play this with the numbers making quotes of 9/4 about a goalless first half look big.
This has occurred in 10 of Chelsea’s 18 home games – this looks certain to be the club’s lowest-scoring Premier League season but defensively they’ve kept things fairly tight in the main with only 18 goals conceded at the Bridge.
Twelve of Newcastle’s 37 games so far have landed this bet too and with little at stake there might not be the greatest urgency on show.

Kieran Trippier anytime assist
Trippier has proved an astute signing for Newcastle – and not just in defensive terms.
The stats show he’s provided seven assists in the Premier League this season (and three more in the cups competitions), while he’s also created a total of 110 chances – the most of any defender in the English top flight.
With Chelsea having conceded 2+ goals in seven of their last nine games, there may well be opportunities for Trippier to put the ball on a plate for in-form strikers Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak.

Back Kieran Trippier to assist at any time at 11/4 at William Hill
