Chris Pine’s new short hair splits fans: ‘Silver fox’ or ‘sad’?

It turns out “spitgate” wasn’t the only drama Chris Pine was dealing with during the Venice International Film Festival last fall.

In a recent video interview for Esquire, the 42-year-old actor revealed the hilarious comment that led him to chop off his long hair following the world premiere of “Don’t Worry Darling.”

“I thought I was looking pretty, pretty fly, the hair was long, everything was happening and my publicist said I looked like Rachel from ‘Friends,’” Pine said.

“I couldn’t unhear it,” he continued, “And it was the first day and my first time in Venice.”

The first thing Pine did after returning home from the exhausting trip was buzz down the ombré bob. He then debuted his close-cropped cut at the 2022 Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Gala,

However, the big chop left fans divided, with some people joking that it was a “trauma response” following the drama-filled “Don’t Worry Darling” press tour.

Other fans, however, praised Pine’s new look, with one person tweeting at the time, “oh my god, i am in love with chris pine and all of the grey hair. silver fox, for real.”

Despite people’s mixed reactions to Pine’s hair, the actor previously admitted he had no intention of growing out his tresses — it just happened out of “laziness.”

“I guess it’s, like, equal parts laziness and equal parts something I may do in the future here,” he told Entertainment Tonight in March 2022. “If there’s any excuse not to shave and have makeup put on, I, you know …”

Pine was first spotted with the bushier look in February 2022 while out running errands in Los Angeles.
