Christine McGuinness heads for the chop and shows off blunt new long bob

Short hair is already proving to be the top beauty trend of 2023. Celebs who have previously loved long tresses have been quick to chop off their lengths in favour of bobs and lobs (long bobs) – and Christine McGuinness is the latest to show off her own take on the trend.

The model and mum-of-three first filmed herself at an unknown hair salon yesterday, before sharing a further look at the chop in subsequent Instagram Stories.

“Also…had a lil chop chop. What are we saying? I love it,” she captions a video of her new look, before adding in the next clip: “London, I’ve missed you”.

We’re not sure where Christine was when she filmed these stories as it appears she’s surrounded by light-up balloons in a room full of mirrors, but one thing we do know is that her hair looks gorgeous. Considering the star is known for her extra-long blonde tresses, this style – which sees her lose at least ten inches of length from her ends – is quite the change.

It seems we’re also being treated to a rare look at her natural, extensions-free hair, as well. We have to say, we’re a little bit jealous of the condition of her hair. With blunt ends and plenty of thickness, many faux blondes will know how hard it is to maintain that level of condition while regularly hitting the bleach.

Like we said, Christine is bang on trend when it comes to this new lob. Other celebs like Zendaya, Netflix’s Wednesday star Jenna Ortega and Lily James have all recently traded in their long hair for a shorter style of their own. There are also two different types of bobs trending: blunt, long bobs like Christine’s, and shag-like chops.

If you want inspiration for a shorter look that has more texture and layering than the blunt bob, look to Jenna for a visual. The star recently posted the results of her trip to the hair salon with her Instagram followers – and hundreds of them have since been begging her to share the details on what this exact cut is called.

“What is this cut called? It looks great on her!” raves one, while another adds: “This is giving ‘the Rachel’ but make it emo. I love it.”

A third pleads: “It's SOOOOO gorgeous!!! I love your work. Would you please tell me what the haircut is called?”

We can confirm this look is being dubbed an “octopus cut” by hair experts. If you fancy hearing more about that, you can read ourdedicated octopus and shag haircut page here.
