A ‘selfish’ couple who viewed ‘over 100’ properties before appearing on Location, location, location were slammed by viewers last night as ‘picky.’
Account director Sophie and her husband Matt, who works in music events, from Broadstairs, confessed they had been searching for their first home for a year, and had viewed over 100 properties.
They had a budget of £600,000 and said they wanted a four bedroom house with an open-plan living area and a garden, which was in walking distance to both the beach and town.
However they ended up rejecting all three of the properties they were shown on the programme – finding flaws in each of the houses they were shown.
Many viewers said they were unimpressed by the couple, with one writing: ‘Anyone else fed up with these young couples moving from London with a ridiculous budget moaning about not being able to find anywhere to live whilst crashing at their parent’s place?’

At the start of the programme, the couple confessed they had struggled to find their perfect home.
Sophie said: ‘We moved out of our flat in London and put everything into storage. The house unfortunately fell through, and nine months later, we are still here at my mother’s cottage.’
Matt said it was a ‘cramped’ environment for the young family, with Sophie saying: ‘It just feels like we’re on pause, in that sense.’
They had pushed their budget from £450,000 to £600,000 , but their search was hampered by their long list of desires.
The first property was a semi-detached house in a ‘spot on’ location, with Sophie saying the £525,000 home had ‘potential’
It had a stunning extension with byfold doors out onto the large garden, making it an ideal open-plan space for the couple to grow their family
Meanwhile it had the open-plan living space that the couple so desired – and it was £75,000 under their top budget, so the couple would have money to extend into the attic
It had three bedrooms and off-road parking – but despite Sophie saying she liked the property, Matt confessed it was too small for him
While some rooms in the property could have done with a lick of paint, the family bathroom had been newly decorated in a stylish and modern way
Sophie said: ‘I grew up in walking distance to a beach, it’s why we moved back down here. A garden is very important to us.’
They were also hoping for three bedrooms, curb appeal, storage, open-plan kitchen and hopefully, as the family grew, it would have space for a bigger family.
The search was complicated by a racing market which was pushing prices up, with Matt saying: ‘What we could afford 12 months ago, is not necessarily available now.’
Finding a home meant everything to them, with Sophie saying: ‘We are exhausted, we just want our own home. I don’t think Kirstie is going to think we’re fussy, I thinks he’s going to want to help us.’
Kirstie told them they’d got themselves in a ‘pickle’, saying: ‘If you see 100 properties you’re going to start repeating yourselves.’
Sophie said: ‘We have found properties and put in an offer which has been accepted, and then for whatever reason, it’s fallen through.’
The second property the family saw was on one of the town’s most desirable streets. The Victorian terrace wasn’t open plan, but it was charming throughout and had the three bedrooms they wanted
The three bedrooms in the property were large doubles and though it could have done with a bit of cosmetic work, there was little to do to the house
The property, which featured a smaller kitchen which wasn’t open plan as they wanted, came with a cost of £550,000 – £50,000 under their top budget
Meanwhile many of the property’s large bedrooms were flooded with light, and had been decorated in a modern and trendy way
Matt said: ‘Due to how inflated all the house prices are, we are having to push our budget.’
Sophie added: ‘Our comfortable budget is around £450, but we could push to £600.’

Matt said it was ‘all they’d ever wanted’, but he said he felt the property was ‘just really small based on the price.’
Sophie said she could ‘imagine herself waking up there’, but Matt appeared hesitant, calling it ‘food for thought.’

The third property was located in Ramsgate, where the couple’s budget could go further – but they said they had little interest in moving to the area
The couple had reservations before they even stepped into the property – and never made it past the spacious living room in the home
Despite their concerns about the area, the house had plenty of space – with two reception rooms as well as four good sized-bedrooms. It also had a wrap-around garden
Sophie said she felt the garden ‘wasn’t big enough’, and she admitted she was more interested in house number one.
The third property the couple went to see was in Ramsgate, where there were lower prices and more space.
The detached house had plenty of space – with two reception rooms as well as four good sized-bedrooms. It also had a wrap-around garden.
It was on the market for £450,000 – but Sophie was immediately unsure. She said: ‘The main road, the area – it’s not for us, it’s not what we want.’
They said they couldn’t stop thinking about property one, with Sophie saying they liked everything about it – except the price.
On a second visit, Sophie said she ‘really liked it’, but Matt said he would be aiming for the £475,000.
He explained he felt the market was too hot at the moment, saying he felt ‘anxiety’ about the housing search.
Many of the viewers were left stunned by their attitude towards buying, with many dubbing the couple ‘picky’ and ‘fussy’
Sitting down with Kirstie at the end of the search, it was a question of whether the first house ticked enough boxes.
Sophie said she would put an offer in on the first place, but Matt ‘needed a bit more time’, saying: ‘It’s understandable, we just need to crunch some numbers.’
However it was revealed at the end of the programme that the couple’s search was ongoing.
Many of the viewers were left stunned by their attitude towards buying, with one commenting: ‘Not getting these two, seen 100 houses, they just want for nothing and are missing out, paying more.’
‘After 100+ viewings, you gotta think that it’s not the housing market that’s the problem,’ one added.
A third commented: ‘Sophie and Matt were too fussy and the longer they hang around the more the prices are going up. If you haven’t found anything after 100+ viewings, you never will.’
A fourth wrote: ‘He’s the problem why they can’t find a house.’
