Positioned to the right of the party, Gaitskell achieved 47 votes more than the combined total of his opponents and had the backing of the unions.
27 years ago (1995) The Dayton Accord brought the three-year war in Bosnia to an end. Bosnian, Serb and Croat leaders signed the agreement in Paris which saw the division of Bosnia into two parts – 51 per cent Muslim-Croat and 49 per cent Serb.
Estimates suggest around 100,000 people died in the brutal war.
