DEAR DEIDRE: I KNOW it is wrong to want your own father to die, but I desperately want his suffering to end.
My dad is 89. He is old but coped until he caught Covid.
In such a short period of time the cheerful, cheeky dad I knew has disappeared.
In his place is a thin man who doesn’t recognise me.
Dementia has taken him away.
I am his 64-year-old daughter.

He can’t walk more than a few metres without falling and is now in a care home.
He really wanted to die at home and the one thing he feared the most was going into a home.
I feel as though I’ve let him down.
Is it so wrong to want him to give up the struggle?
