Doe vs. siren lips are trending thanks to TikTok – but what are they?

If you’re a regular on the #beautytok TikTok feed then you’ll know all about doe vs. siren eyes, makeup trends currently going viral on the app. If you aren’t a regular then let us give you a quick low-down on the looks.

Siren eyes are essentially a spin on your classic cat eye, but more seductive and with a smoky silhouette. Named after the alluring Greek mythical creature, it’s all about creating a super sultry and sharp wing shape using eyeshadow, liner or both – thinkMegan Fox,Emily Ratajkowskiand supermodels likeNaomi Campbell.

On the other end of the makeup scale there are doe eyes: Bambi-looking, mascara-heavy and highlighted eyes that give an impression of innocence. ThinkAriana Grande, Sarah Hyland and Sydney Sweeney for this round-looking eye effect.

The point is, these trends have now made their way to another part of our face: our lips. The doe vs. siren lips is relatively new to TikTok but the hashtags #doelips and #sirenlips have already been watched 5.2 million and 6.7 million times respectively.

What are they, you wonder? Again, it’s about creating a certain shape and look using clever makeup. This time, instead of eyeliner, lipliner is used to either give lips a sexy, lifted and feline-like pout or rounded and youthful-looking lips. The key difference in the looks is the placement of the lipliner. For the siren style, the liner is used to pull the corners of the lips up. For the doe style, it’s used to round out the Cupid’s bow and the centre of the lower lip. User amadea.dashurie shows the two looks here perfectly.

These aren’t the first lip trends to go viral on TikTok. Back in May, before we were all giving ourselves siren lips, we were trying out gym lips. a name coined by makeup artistKelli Anne Sewelland that describes overlining your lips with a pencil that is very similar to your natural lip colour, before layering a nourishinglip balmor mask over the top.

It adds a little “something” to your look without requiring a full face of makeup application – nicknamed as such because Kelli usually wears the combo to the gym.

“No one said I was reinventing the wheel, I realise a lip treatment is not futuristic, but I do think it's a fun name for a very 'no makeup makeup' overlined lip that looks like you're wearing makeup,” she explained in a recent TikTok video about the look, in response to it going viral. “You just have plump, juicy lips, AKA gym lips.”

We wonder what the next TikTok lip trend will be?
