Shania (born Eilleen Edwards) explained that the decision behind the shoot was to show the world that she’s ‘comfortable’ in her own skin as she does her part to promote self-love and acceptance.

Following her diagnosis with Lyme Disease in 2013, the Your Still The One singer has made a conscious effort to love after her body through her diet and lifestyle. Lyme disease is caused by a bacteria that is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected black-legged ticks.

The most common symptoms of the disease are fever, headache, fatigue and a skin rash called erythema migrans. The disease can typically be treated with antibiotics. But if left untreated, the infection can spread to the joints, heart and nervous symptoms and be deadly.

The country legend had to retrain her voice after she developed dysphonia – affects the muscles of the larynx – as a result of the chronic illness.

She has since been vocal about how she looks after her body through regular exercise such as walking and horseback riding.

Meanwhile, the long-time vegetarian has been open about cutting sugar and junk food from her diet, while she also reveals the way she turns to natural products in a homemade scrub to help keep her skin supple.

Here, FEMAIL takes a look at how Twain has maintained her youthful appearance with the help of green smoothies, powerwalking and olive oil cleansing.

The Ontario native always tries to stay active, whether that be by simply walking, horseback riding, or playing tennis.

Speaking to The Cut in 2017, the I’m Gonna Getcha Good singer claimed that her gym’s tennis court is a great place to get in some cardio.

She explained: ‘I always say the tennis court is my gym — I love tennis. I started playing it with my son when he was about seven. I was already older, in my early 40s. With tennis, I forget that I’m working out because it’s a game.

‘When I’m able to play tennis regularly — which is, again, depending on where I am — it’s nothing for me to play three to five times a week.’

Elsewhere, the singer is all about getting in those steps and makes sure to walk as much as possible.

‘If I’m going to do shortcuts because I’m traveling and I can’t manage the environment around me or my schedule is too much, walking is my key thing,’ she stated.

‘If I’ve got to go to an appointment, I’ll try to walk there, or walk back because going off to play tennis isn’t always easy when I’ve got a busy work schedule.’

Relying on mother nature: Why the singer prefers homemade skincare products to help keep her skin looking and feeling good

The singer uses a simple sugar and olive oil mix to exfoliate her skin and keep it glowing

The singer (pictured left in 1998) uses sunscreen and a vitamin C complex every day in order to maintain her youthful looks

As she continues to battle Lyme disease, Shania told The Cut that wellness has become ‘more of a focus in my life with age’.

She stated: ‘You just see yourself differently in the mirror every day, and you feel different when you push your body, and you take wellness less for granted.’

When it comes to maintaining her outer appearance, the singer has admitted she’ll never leave the house with proper SPF coverage and makes sure to re-apply on long days so she is fully protected from UV rays.

‘I exfoliate every day, I wear sunscreen every day, and I use a C complex as well. That’s made a huge difference with my skin,’ Twain explained.

Meanwhile, the No One Needs to Know singer shuns expensive exfoliators for her own self-concocted face scrub using simple ingredients found in the kitchen.

She stated: ‘This is going to sound weird, but because I’m traveling so much, I take sugar and a bit of olive oil or any face cream that I’ve got handy, and mix it with a little bit of warm water, and I gently scrub my face. I came up with it myself.

‘It’s very hard to find an exfoliator that I really like. I tried so many. I have tried very fine sand before as well, but it’s a little bit too abrasive. Sugar works well because it softens with a little bit of warm water and it’s not sharp on the skin.’

In fact, olive oil is a key item in her beauty regimen, with the popstar adding: ‘Olive oil is everything. I’ll mix olive oil with any lotion for my body.

‘I use olive oil on my face when I’m cleaning. I use olive oil on the ends of my hair when it’s dry. It is the star product in my life.’

In a 2020 interview with Glamour, she shared more about the origin of her love for olive oil.

‘My mother and grandmothers had permed hair most of their adult life, so they learned that putting heated olive oil on the hair and leaving it wrapped in a plastic cap overnight saves the hair from breaking and softens the curls,’ she explained.

Sticking to the diet: How the long-time vegetarian swaps sugar and junk food for green smoothies and healthy snacks

The country superstar sticks to a protein-based diet that includes loads of vegetables and no meat

Though she avoid sugar, the singer balance clean eating with the occasion indulgence

The country superstar sticks to a protein-based diet that includes loads of vegetables and no meat – and does her best to avoid sugar and junk food in her daily meals.

Shania once credited her vegetarian eating habits as her anti-ageing secret, and even travels with a blender to make sure she can make healthy smoothies when she’s touring or working events.

The singer told E! Insider in 2018 that while she becomes stricter with her diet on tour, she’s doesn’t ever restrict herself from the odd treat because ‘you’ve got to live’.

SHANIA’S TYPICAL MEAL PLAN

Breakfast: Coconut water, avocado and apple smoothie

Lunch: Lentil, quinoa, chickpeas and salad

Snacks: Walnuts and almonds or an avocado, apple, blueberry and almond smoothie

Dinner: Tofu stir-fry

She explained: ‘Closer to touring I get way disciplined. There is a point where I start weaning off French fries and I start weaning in my green smoothies, but I’m always overall very conscientious about what I eat anyway.’

Meanwhile, she previously told the Las Vegas Review-Journal: ‘I stick to a mixture of real raw, whole-food items, every day. I make sure I’m eating greens every day, and nuts, and food that’s not processed. I do that every day.

‘If you end up eating bread and rice and pasta to satisfy yourself, then you’re probably not necessarily eating healthier. You might be sparing yourself some of the downsides of eating meat. But you’re not necessarily benefiting yourself by eating the starch.’

On a typical day, the singer prefers to have a liquid form of breakfast – usually mixing coconut water, avocado and an apple together in a smoothie.

She told The Cut: ‘If I don’t have access to coconut water, it’s blueberries and almonds — that’s one of my favorite things to eat. I try to eat first thing in the morning when I get up before I shower or do anything like that.’

For lunch, Shania favors lean protein options loaded with non-starchy vegetables, such as lentil bowls, quinoa, chickpeas, and salad.

The star mainly snacks on walnuts and almonds and uses smoothies to help avoid the temptation of potato chips.

‘I stay away from junk food. I make that avocado smoothie — I have a blender in my hotel room everywhere I go — as a filler between meals so that I’m not starving all day,’ she previously explained.

As for dinner, Shania continues with her vegetarian food plan with meals like tofu stir-fry – though she does balance clean eating with the occasion indulgence such as dill pickle chips and French fries.
