Five cheap and easy activities to entertain the kids during the school summer holidays | The Sun

DO the summer holidays feel really long while your funds are very short?

With most of us over the halfway point now, many kids are climbing the walls.

But you can beat boredom without bashing your bank balance with these at-home activities for under a fiver.

DIG DEEP: Create your own “sandbox”, wherever you live, by converting any large plastic tub into a toy building site. Use rocks from the garden and you can use sand or, if easier, rice or oats.

Add toy diggers or tractors (poundshop.com has two tractors for £1) to complete your home-made site.

ART ATTACK: Pavement chalk is a great way to indulge kids’ artistic side and a 12-pack of multicoloured chalks are £3 at Hobbycraft.

Unleash their talent by setting a theme such as “sport” or “dinosaurs”. You could also help them draw a maze or track so they can scoot or run around it at speed.

HIT BACK: Need some new game inspiration? See bit.ly/3SPHUR0 for lots of free Disney-inspired games including Rapunzel’s frying pan cricket and Sleeping Beauty tag, all aimed at getting the family up and moving.

A GOOD I-DEA: Head over to papertraildesign.com where you can find more than 40 free I Spy games that you can download and print off for the kids.

The printables show multiple corresponding pictures and there’s a range of themes, so it should keep them very busy for a bit.
