Girlfriend had men round every night to satisfy sex cravings when I went away

When my boss suggested a work placement away, my missus could not get rid of me fast enough.

I was offered a six or nine-month stint in Chicago and she urged me to take the longer trip.

She argued that any extra money earned by me would secure our future.

I flew out trusting her to behave herself.

Now I’m back and have discovered that she cheated on me the whole time I was away.

Our downstairs neighbours have complained that she had strangers over, held parties and entertained male friends on an almost nightly basis.

She selfishly put the neighbourhood through nine months of hell with loud music, screaming and mess.

Yet she told everyone who dared to complain to “get stuffed”.

Now I’ve confronted her and she’s behaving like a brat. She’s swinging wildly between apologising and being ultra-defensive.

One minute she’s sorry for letting me down, the next she’s claiming that everything is my fault. Apparently, I should know that she couldn’t be left by herself, that she feels insecure and needs nightly sex.

During several of our rows, she’s even called me selfish for putting money before her. But I only went out there because she told me to.

Nothing feels real any more. I thought that I was doing a good thing. I thought that the extra money earned would set us up but now I feel used and ridiculous.

My best mate has never liked my girl. He’s admitted that he was aware of what was going on but didn’t want to be accused of causing trouble or ruining my work trip.

In the past few weeks, I’ve been guilty of chewing his ear off, but even he’s bored and telling me to “can it”. I’ve been betrayed and humiliated. How do I come back from that?

JANE SAYS: Face it, your relationship cannot recover from this horrendous betrayal. We’re only human and we all do stupid things from time to time.

If your girlfriend had slipped up once during your time in America – and was very, very sorry – then you might be inclined to give her a second chance.

But the fact that she entertained a host of other lovers, in your bed, virtually every night while you were away beggars belief. It suggests to me that you are disrespected and replaceable.

The minute you were out of town, your place was instantly filled – and it doesn’t sound as if she was fussy about with whom.

Sadly, it looks like she isn’t prepared to take any blame.

Did she ever stop to consider your sexual health, your reputation, or your feelings? Would she have spoken up if your neighbours hadn’t told you?

Sadly, it strikes me that you don’t really know the woman or what makes her tick at all.
