Like his unique car designs, Gordon Murray boasts an impressive car collection.

Gordon Murray is a South-African-British car designer best known for designing formula one racing cars and the stylish Mclaren F1 sports car. With a career spanning almost five decades and has designed and built many iconic sports cars. Using his massive car expertise, he started his own automobile company in 2017. Aside from being an ace designer, Gordon Murray is also quite the car collector and owns an impressive car collection.

8 1973 Alfaholics Romeo 1600 Junior Zagato – $47,200

Gordon Murray owns a heavily customized green Alfaholics Romeo 1600 Junior Zagato specially built for him by Alfaholics. Murray has customized the green Romeo 1600 down to the last details, including GTA-R upgrades and other physical mods. The car is powered by a 1.6L 1570cc engine which generates up to 110 Horsepower.

7 1980 Ferrari Dino 308 GT4 – $67,951

The Ferrari Dino 308 GT4 was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 1973 as Ferrari’s first V8 engine car. The car was designed by Bertone Studios, a designer based in Turi who gave the vehicle a modern look. Gordon Murray preferred this car over the Lamborghini Urraco and enjoyed driving in it. The vehicle is powered by a V8 engine which can generate up to 205 Horsepower and can zoom to the speed of 100 in just 7.2 seconds. 

6 Lotus Elite – $87,040

The Lotus Elite is an innovative car produced between 1957 and 1963. It was the first mainstream car to flaunt a lightweight fiberglass monocoque body with a futuristic suspension system. The car’s design is purely driver-centric, with excellent aerodynamics and handling, providing a flawless driving experience for Gordon Murray.

5 Alpine A110 – $93,830

The Alpine A110 is one of the few modern sports cars in Gordon Murray’s ‘Toy Box,’ which mostly features vintage cars. The A110 was launched in 2017 as a modern iteration of the Alpine A110 Berlinette, produced during the 60s and 70s. Gordon Murray bought the Alpine A110 in 2018 and was astounded by the performance of the car. He was so impressed by the Alpine that he benchmarked it while producing his T50 hypercar as per Hot Cars.

4 1963 Abarth 1000 GT Bialbero – $337,000

The Fiat Abarth 1000 GT Bialbero was first produced in 1963 to compete in the World SportsCar Championship for 1000cc cars. Gordon Murray is fascinated with Abarth cars and has an Abarth 2000 Spider in his garage. The Abarth 1000 is powered by a 1.0-liter twin-cam engine, producing up to 102 horsepower. The car was a huge success in European motorsports, winning many championships while holding a Bonneville Salt Flats land speed record. The iconic vehicle was once auctioned off for a whopping $337,000, as reported by SuperCars.

3 1966 De Tomaso Vallelunga – $349,508

One of the rarest cars in Gordon Murray’s collection, The De Tomaso Vallelunga is a mid-engine sports car produced between 1964 to 1967, with just 58 units produced. Murray owns a red-color Vallelunga, which features a glass-fiber body and a backbone chassis inspired by the Lotus Elan. The lightweight car is powered by a 1.5 Litre 1498 cc engine and generates 100 horsepower.

2 Gordon Murray T50s Niki Lauda- $3 million

The fastest car in Gordon Murray’s collection, the Gordon Murray T50s Niki Lauda is an only-track hypercar manufactured by GMA. The car was made as a tribute to three-time Formula 1 champion and Murray’s former teammate Niki Lauda. The supercar boasts a 3.9-liter V-12, generating a staggering 725 Horsepower and attaining a top speed of 210 mph as per Topspeed. The car is planned to be a limited edition and will only be available for exclusive buyers.

1 Porsche 550 Spyder – $5.5 Million

The Porsche 550 Spyder is the most expensive and lightest car in Gordon Murray’s collection, weighing just 590 Kilograms. The 550 Spyder is one of the most collectible Porsches ever produced and is powered by a Carrera 4 Cylinder 1498cc engine that can zoom from 0-100 in 8.5 seconds. The car was nicknamed ‘Giant Killer’ due to its incredible performance, and it won important victories at the Carrera Panamericana in 1954 and Targa Florio in 1956.

Gordon Murray’s extensive knowledge of cars has made him own one of the most unique car collections in the world. His collection mostly features lightweight vintage cars with massive historical significance while also featuring futuristic supercars made of cutting-edge technology. The Porsche 550 Spyder is the most expensive car in Murray’s collection, with current values reaching up to $5.5 million, followed by the T50 Niki Lauda.
