I feel indebted to my husband but we are nothing more than friends | The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: TO the outside world I have the perfect life. I’ve got a good job in teaching, a husband my family adores and a lovely home.

But I am not in love with my husband. I think of him only as a good friend.

I’m 31 and he is 33. We married six years ago.

We met a couple of months after I had been assaulted while on holiday in Greece with my best friend.

One morning we woke up in a house full of men, half-naked and disoriented. We believe we were sexually assaulted.

Neither of us wanted to go to the police.

My kind husband put me back together. I feel like I owe him my life, but I’m so lonely.

DEIDRE SAYS:  You don’t have to go to the police but please get support for the assault. Rape Crisis (rapecrisis.org.uk) will help.

Before you tell your husband you don’t love him, be sure of your feelings.

He was there for you but gratitude alone can’t sustain a relationship.

Consider counselling to help you as you come to terms with your assault and work out whether your relationship has a future.

My counselling support pack will help you find a therapist.
