I thought you had to strip butt naked for smear test – the nurse was wide eyed

Going to the doctors can be a daunting experience for most – especially if it's about something more intimate.

So when Charlotte went for her first smear test, she wasn't totally sure of what to expect.

The cervical screening that is offered to women and people with a cervix between the ages of 25 and 64 is vital for checking the health of the cervix.

Although the type of appointment is important, a lot of women are 'put off' with the invasive procedure that the NHS states is the "one of the best ways to protect yourself from cervical cancer."

Having plucked up the confidence, Charlotte went ahead to her smear test – even though it didn't go quite to plan.

Charlotte candidly revealed her first experience of getting the screening, where the medical professional takes small samples of cells from the cervix.

In a TikTok clip that racked up thousands of views, ashe revealed: "The first time I got a smear test she told me to get undressed and lay on the bed behind the curtain."

Usually, all you need to do is take off your knickers and trousers so the nurse can easily access the cervix with a swab.

But Charlotte took the request of getting undressed a little too 'literally'.

"I got completely naked and proceeded to try and cover my top half with the tissue paper stuff they give you", Charlotte admitted.

"She came round wide eyed and visibly shocked at what was in front of her, explaining – whilst examining me – she just meant my trousers."

Whoops!

"I need to stop taking things so literal", Charlotte joked in the caption where she included the caption "don't fear the smear."

Many women took the comments being able to relate to their first time having a smear – and some thanked her for being so 'real' about her experience.

One person commented: "Medical staff need to realise some of us need CLEAR STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTION lol."

Another added: "This is so funny, thanks for the laugh."

While a third reassured: "Not your fault!!!

"Especially during your first smear they should have been clearer. Sorry you went through that."

Someone else shared: "I have smear next week, I know I will take bottom half off, then fold knickers up really small and hide them under clothes."

Meanwhile, a fifth woman noted: "I laid face down the first time."

And another giggled: "The moment I became old enough to visit the doctor without my mom was the day I was doomed."
